What is the best way to contact the teacher?
The best way to contact me is through e-mail. Please e-mail me at
joyce_santiago@roundrockisd.org
What do I need to do if my child will be going home a different way?
Since I will not answer my phone or check my phone messages
during the school day, the best way to let me know your child
will be going home a different way is with a short note or by e-
mail. Please make sure that I confirm via email. You may also
call the front office at 704.0500 and they will give me the
information.
How can I pay for my child's lunch?
The best and most efficient way to pay for your child's lunch is
to send a check every Monday. Every child has an account number
and the money is automatically put into your child's account.
Just remember to put your child's account number on the check.
You may also go online to deposit money in your child's account.
What kinds of snacks can I send to school?
The best snacks to send to school are: crackers, pretzels, apples,
grapes, carrots, celery, granola bars, fruit chews, cheese,
crackers with cheese. Any snacks that are healthy and dry are
great!
This year we have several students who have mild to severe peanut
and nut allergies. Please do not bring any snacks that contain
any nuts or peanuts.
What are some things I can do to help the class?
There are so many ways to help our class this year! You may
chaperone on our field trips. You may listen to our students
read and help them write their stories. You may take materials
home to be sorted, stapled and colored, etc. Just e-mail
me if you would like to volunteer your time. Any help would be
greatly appreciated!
What are some ways to help my child become a better mathematician?
Help your child become a better mathematician by discussing the
importance of math in our world around us. Help them realize
that we deal with math everyday and that it is EVERYWHERE!
Practice telling time to the hour and half hour using an analog
clock, identifying numbers 0 to 100, reviewing 2D shapes(square, triangle, rectangle, circle, oval, diamond) and 3D
shapes (cone, cylinder, sphere, rectangular prism, triangular
prism, pyramid), identifying smallest and largest, greater than
and less than, naming coins and its value, identifying place
value, reading a thermometer, identifying before and after, and
measuring using non-standard materials. If you would like to have
a 100's chart to practice at home, just ask!
What If I need to pick my child up earlier than 2:45?
Please be sure to go to the front office and sign your child out.
If you go directly to the classroom I will not be able to release
your child unless I have permission from the front office.
If my child will be a walker, where should I meet my child?
You may wait for your child in front of the school building in front of the windows. If an older sibling will be picking up your first
grader, the flag pole is a great meeting area!
When are specials for the Tiny Texans?
The specials calendar will look a little different this year. We
will always have PE every Tuesday, Thursday and
Friday. We will always have Music or Art on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Be sure to wear running/tennis shoes on PE days!
If it's my child's birthday, can I bring something sweet for the class?
Yes, you are welcome to bring in a small treat for your child and
for the rest of the claas. If you do bring a treat, please
remember to: 1) let me know beforehand (at least 2 days), 2) bring the treats by
2:00, 3) make sure it is peanut-free, 4) refrain from blue and red icing, and 5) refrain from bringing soda or any juices.
