Hello and welcome to Teravista! Home of the TIGERS! My name is Joyce Santiago
and I will be your child's first grade teacher this year. I would like to
take the opportunity to let you know that I am so happy to have your child in
my class. We will have a very busy, productive and enjoyable year.
I was born in Surabaya, Indonesia, but I grew up in Austin. I received my
bachelor's degree and my master's degree from Southwest Texas State
University in San Marcos (now officially called Texas State University). I
have taught 1st grade, 2nd and 3rd grade in Midland and in Austin.
My parents live in Austin and they also have a home here in Teravista. I
have an older brother, Ferdinand, and he lives with his wife near Cincinatti,
Ohio.
My husband is a firefighter for the Austin Fire Department with the Special
Operations unit. They perform swift water rescues, high angle rope rescues,
confined space rescues, structural collapse rescues and also deal with
hazardous materials. We have a very energetic 6 year old son named Alex
who keeps us very, very busy! He will start 1st grade here at Teravista in
August 2011. We also have a very playful black and white tabby cat named
Tux.
When I'm not teaching I love spending time with my family and friends. I
enjoy reading, shopping, walking/exercising, watching movies, traveling,
listening to music, sleeping and enjoying the cool weather! I also enjoy
trying different types of foods from different parts of the world. My
favorites are Thai, Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese and Italian food!
