What can I do to help my child be more successful at school?

Please read daily with your child. Let your child be independent, that also
means making some mistakes. I promise, we all learn from our errors.

Are the report cards going to be like his/her Kindergarten report card?

Like the Kindergarten report card, your child will receive a 1, 2, 3, or 4.
A "1" indicates that your child is experiencing difficulty. We will meet to
discuss such items. A level "2" means that your child is progressing at an
appropriate level. When your child has met the the MASTERY criteria by
RRISD standards, that warrants a "3." "4s" are not necessary, as they
indicate that your child exceeds the expectations. At the end of the school
year, we are hoping that your child has mastered all areas, so his/her
report card would be full of "3s."

How do I let you know if my child will be going home a different way?

Email communication is usually ideal, but please make sure that I have
responded to your email. In the event that I have to be out, the substitute
needs to be aware of the changes. Placing a note in your child's blue daily
folder ensures that the teacher will be aware of the change. You may also
contact the office to ensure that I have received the message.

Can I call the classroom?

Of course! I will not be available to speak to you immediately. Being that
I will be teaching all day, I will return your messages at the first
opportunity. That may be during my conference period or after school.

How can I help out in the classroom?

Depending on your time and availability, you can join us weekly to supervise
workstations during reading groups or you can work after hours at home.
Believe me, there is plenty to help with.

Can I have a birthday party in the classroom?

We would love to celebrate your child's birthday with a special snack
(cookies, cupcakes, juices, etc.) during our snack time (2:00). Please let
me know when you plan to join us so we will plan accordingly.
