We have several exciting activities we will be participating in during the
next couple of 9 weeks. Be sure to ask your child about the fun things First
Grade is learning!
***Our class Valentine's Day Party will be Friday, February 12th at 1:30!
Please remember to send in your child's party item by Wednesday, February
10th. Please have your child make one Valentine for each student in our class
(see class list)!***
Wednesday, February 10th is an early release day. School will dismiss at
12:45. Monday, February 15th is a student holiday, No School!
**We will be attending a Field trip to Austin Children’s Museum at the end of
the month. Information for this field trip will be coming home on Monday,
February 8th!**
Please continue having your child read every night to continue to improve
their fluency (ability to read at a natural pace) and comprehension of what
is being read! At times, students tend to regress if their reading routine is
not consistent. Practicing our 100 First Grade Sight Words would benefit your
child as well!
We have jumped into AR (Accelerated Reader)! We are so excited to be able to
participate in such a fun reading program! Please ask your child to tell you
all about it, and encourage your child to read as many AR books as they can!
Good tips to use when helping your child read at home: Ask your child to
start from the beginning and tell you what the story is about. Have them
include who, what, when, where and why! If your child is stuck on an unknown
word, ask them to look for blends (sh, br, bl, st), our phonograms (ay, ai,
or, aw) and for word endings (ink, ank, unk, ent, am).
