These are skills to work on for the entire year. Other assignments will be
sent home on a monthly homework calendar.
Please read to your child everday. Ask questions about the story. Have them
retell the story in their own words.
Identify uppercase and lowercase letters and say their sounds.
Listen for and produce rhyming words.
Identify beginning and ending sounds of words.
Blend sounds to read words--/c/ /a/ /t/ is "cat"
Segment words and say each letter sound--"bat" is /b/ /a/ /t/.
Practice writing their name using correct upper and lowercase letters.
Count to 100 by 1's, 5's, and 10's.
Recognize numbers to 30.
Say the days of the week and months of the year.
Create patterns--AB,AAB,ABB, and ABC and recognize the "core" of the pattern--
the part that repeats.
Solve problems using things around the house. Examples:
If I have 3 apples and 2 bananas, how many pieces of fruit do I have?
If I have 7 cookies and I eat 3 of them, how many will I have left?
Learn to read and write all 30 sight words:
a, I, go, so, no, am, at, an, up, we
my,like, to, see, can
and, the, is, it, you
do,look, in, have,me
he, she, for, said, of
Draw a picture and write words to tell a story. Sound out as many of the
words as you can. Remember to leave spaces between your words and put correct
ending punctuation.
