How much homework will my child have in math?

Homework is assigned every night, but all classes will usually
have some time to work on their assignment at the end of the
period. Completion of homework is very important in order to be
prepared for quizzes and tests.

Some suggestions for completion of homework:
1. Establish a "homework first" policy! Use incentives to
motivate your child to complete homework before other activities.
2. Establish a specific time and place for your child to do his
homework. Avoid distractions.
3. Be sure your child has the assignment written in his/her
planner or you may want to check the teacher website at
www.roundrockisd.org/walsh.
4. Encourage your child to ask for help when needed.
5. Ask your child to show you the completed work.

How does the A/B/Not Yet Policy work?

Throughout the year we will be assessing the level to which our
students have mastered the curriculum. Assessment will take many
forms including: tests and quizzes; essays; and more. Because
the goal of our class is for each student to achieve mastery,
major projects and tests will earn one of the following grades: A
(90%-100%), B (80%-90%) or “Not Yet.” A grade of “Not Yet”
indicates that a student has not yet mastered the material and
that he or she will be required to achieve mastery as follows:
1. Students earning a grade of 79% or less will be required to
review the completed assessment to determine which material
he/she has not yet mastered and to attend a tutorial at a time
scheduled with his/her teacher to ensure mastery of the material.

2. The student will take a re-assessment over the same material
and will be given the opportunity to prove his/her mastery of the
material. The maximum grade awarded on reassessment will be 80%.

3. The grade book will reflect a “Missing Grade” to indicate that
a student has achieved a “Not Yet” on an assessment. The Missing
Grade will be replaced with an 80% once reassessing has been
successfully completed.
