Dear Westwood Parents,
Welcome to Elementary Art at Westwood. I am looking forward to working with your children.
Your children will learn about the elements and principles of design as well as perspective and how
to create space and depth in a scene.
We will be incorporating pattern,overlapping, placement of objects on the picture plane and the use
of shadows to increase depth and create the illusion of three dimensionality in their art.
I will encourage your students to incorporate their own experiences and ideas in their works of art.
Your children will be learning many new skills and work with a variety of materials. They will learn to
observe and describe art, make judgements and form opinions about art, and learn to interpret art.
I hope your child will come to love and enjoy expressing themselves in and through art.

I wouldn't say no to useable materials you may be throwing out like yarn, fabric,ribbon,buttons or
