Stephen Cloyd has been teaching in the Texas public school system with second language learners
and special education students for 13 years. He is certified to teach all levels of English as a Second
Language (ESL) and Special Education. He is a registered Music Therapist and has completed his
graduate degree in Multicultural Studies. Additionally, he has taught as an adjunct professor at San
Jacinto College teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) to adults. He encourages
questions and comments from parents and other professionals.
Mr. Cloyd's teaching philosophy reflects his experiences and educational goals. He believes that
teachers need to meet the needs of the student. He subscribes to the theories of multiple intelligences
and varying learning styles. In addition, he believe that technology does hold an important place in the
learning environment. He believes that research-based best practices need to be followed at all levels
and that a need to think globally is critical. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, he believes that the
individual student is important and that a passion for serving others goes hand-in-hand with any true
measurement of success.
Stephen wants to assist second language learners with the acquisition of English while emphasizing the
value and need of maintaining the student's first language and heritage.
