TEXAS VISUAL ARTS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

PRODUCTION SKILLS

In order to go through the process of art-making, skills
are developed to learn and practice imagination, perception,
memory, and creativity. Creative thinking is maintained
and encouraged. All work is based on observation, memory,
and a student's own individuality and imagination.

STRUCTURE and CRITICISM

The structure of art is taught by learning the elements,
principles, and styles of art.  Art criticism does not
require a negative stance on art, but rather an
understanding of the artwork that allows for an objective
opinion.

AESTHETICS and BEAUTY

Becoming a part of the aesthetic experience means that you will
learn to define art. You'll learn to understand the nature of art,
its purposes, meanings, as well as its beauty, or if you will, its ugliness!
Art is subjective...

ART HISTORY

Through the exploration of various cultures and times,
we learn ways to better appreciate others and their art work.
As artists, we work from our own experiences and observations,
which in turn teaches us to better understand ourselves
as artists.
