VISUAL ARTS GRADING RUBRIC

Art is not a subject that can easily be graded based on written or
oral testing. Since art is a subjective topic, not everyone views
the same work with the same opinion.

The following is a guide to my grading system:

100 "BEST OF SHOW" (Exceeds expectations of "OUTSTANDING
             PRESENTATION)

97 "OUTSTANDING PRESENTATION" (Exceeds expecations
             of "EXCELLENT" EFFORT)

95 "PE"====PASS with GREAT PARTICIPATION AND EXCELLENT
             EFFORT---A JOB WELL DONE!

90 "PA"====PASS with PARTICIPATION AND EXTRA EFFORT

88 "SE"====PASS with PARTICIPATION AND GOOD TO AVERAGE EFFORT

75 "NI"====PASS but NEEDS IMPROVEMENT IN PARTICIPATION AND
             ART SKILLS

70 "UE"====PASS with VERY LITTLE PARTICIPATION AND
             UNSATISFACTORY EFFORT.

****Every student will have the opportunity to talk to me about
grades during the course. If you feel you have been critiqued
unfairly, please address the subject with me, not your classmates.
Grades are a private matter and you should never compare your work or
grades to another. You have 4 class days from the time of a failing
grade to redo an assignment and this will be on your OWN time before
school, during lunch, after school or as homework.

"Remember every member of your class has the opportunity to make
an "A" in art."

As your teacher, I will base your grades on the following criteria.
This will ensure a fair evaluation for everyone's work.

1 Quality of craftmanship; use of art media.
2 Originality of ideas; Use of creativity and imagination; style.
3 Use of theme and problem-solving skills.
4 Cooperation and teamwork with fellow art students on joint projects.
5 Participation in class discussion and overviews.
6 Willingness to accept new ideas and constructive criticism.
7 Comprehension of design elements and principles; composition.
8 Demonstration of organizational skills; use of class time.
9 Neatness of overall project.
10 Project completed by the assigned due date.
