I attended Indiana University and received my B.S. In Elementary Education
and was graduated from the University of Illinois with an Masters in
Elementary Education (concentration in reading) more years ago than I care
to admit. Subsequently, I moved to Port Arthur, Texas, where I began
teaching reading. I attended Lamar University to become a certified reading
teacher and acquire my Texas teaching certificate.
I moved to Austin, Texas to further my education at the University of Texas.
I was advanced to Candidacy in Language and Literacy and have published
several pieces while at Port Arthur, the University of Texas, and in
Pflugerville. I supervised both student interns and student teachers for the
University while furthering my education, and though I enjoyed it, I couldn't
wait to get back in the classroom to work with children.
I am happily beginning my 35th year of teaching. This is my fourteenth year
as a fourth grade teacher at Windermere; I love teaching and feel that each
studentis a unique and special individual that must be nurtured and taught to
reach for their dreams and fulfill their goals.
I have one daughter, Felicia, who has graduated from Indiana State University
and returned to work and live in Austin. My parents still live in Terre Haute,
Indiana, and I have a sister who is also an educator. She and her husband live
in Houston, Texas, where she teaches reading at the middle school level.
