I graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1983 with a BA in
Merchandising, and after a brief career in management and real estate,
obtained my teaching certification from UHCL. I began my teaching career at
an exemplary campus in Texas City, my husband's hometown, where I taught
grades K, 1st, and 4th for 7 years. This year marks my 22nd year teaching,
with 15 of those years teaching 4th grade in FISD.
I have been married to Pete, my college sweetheart, for 28 years. We have a
son, Ryan, who is a 2nd year law student at South Texas College of Law in
Houston, and a daughter, Kristen, who is a sophomore at San Jacinto College.
Both of our children graduated from Friendswood High School.
I want my students to love learning and hope that while they are in my
care, they feel comfortable enough to take risks. I want each child
challenged, yet not frustrated...to learn from their mistakes and strive for
excellence in all they do.
There is a quote that truly sums up my teaching philosophy. "Children
don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care."
