4th Grade Parent
Orientation
CLASS
SCHEDULE - See “Class
Schedule” on my website.
CONFERENCES –
My conference time is
from 2:30-3:15. If you feel that you need to meet with me, please call the
front office to schedule a conference.
Phone: (281) 482-0111. E-mail address: lschuchmann@fisdk12.net
LUNCH – Our lunchtime is from 11:53-12:23.
Parents are welcome to come have lunch with their child. Be sure to check in at
the front office. Windsong has two tables for parent/child seating. Students
are not allowed to bring a friend when their parent comes for lunch. Parents
may only bring lunch for their child.
ORGANIZERS - I ask that parents look at organizers
each evening. Homework is indicated in the organizer daily. Upcoming tests will
also be indicated in the organizer. Students receive a ticket every day after
they finish writing in their organizer. Students not writing their assignments
daily may receive a conduct mark on their discipline sheets, as this is
something they are asked and expected to do every morning.
4TH
GRADE HOMEWORK POLICY –
Any assignment that is not finished in class will be considered homework and is
due the following day. That assignment will be noted in your child’s organizer.
Ongoing
homework:
Math:
Students should know their math facts: multiplication through x12, addition and
subtraction through 20. Students need to practice their facts nightly if they
do not have them memorized. Mastery of multiplication facts is essential
for success in 4th grade math.
Spelling: Students will have a weekly packet to complete as well a spelling test every Friday. Class time is limited for spelling, and parents should expect a small amount of
homework each night. Students receive their list on Monday. Monday thru
Thursday students will have a written assignment. On Friday, they will have a
written test on the words only. Students are instructed to keep their spelling
packet in their homework folder. That way they will have the spelling list at
home with them every evening to study. I do not publish my spelling list on my
website.
Reading:
Students should read for pleasure at least fifteen minutes each night! I am
requiring that all my students read 10 on-level books each 9 weeks. All at-home
reading should be a chapter book on the child’s level. Students will write a
Reader’s Response letter or take an Accelerated Reader quiz for every book they
read.
LATE
ASSIGNMENTS – Eleven points
will be deducted for any assignment deemed late by the teacher. A late slip
will be sent home with the student, must be signed by a parent or guardian, and
brought back the following school day along with the missing assignment. If the
assignment is not returned at this time, a zero will be issued, but the student
is still expected to complete the assignment.
CORRECT AND
RETURN PAPERS - Daily
grades less than a 70 may be corrected and returned for a possible improved score. Both the original and corrected grade will
be averaged together for a maximum of 70 points. Our 4th grade policy states it is the
teacher’s discretion as to the change in grade.
These papers
generally will come home in the Friday folder and need to be completed and
returned to the teacher. Correct and return papers are not optional.
RETAKES – Students who
fail a test will be provided an opportunity to receive additional
practice/instruction before making corrections or retaking the test. The format
is at the discretion of the teacher. A grade of 70 is the maximum that can be
earned on the re-assessment.

DISCIPLINE
SHEETS - The Discipline
Sheet is the orange card you see each Friday in your child’s take-home folder.
I use this to contact you about behavior issues. Your child’s conduct grade
will come directly from the number of marks given over the 9 weeks period.
Please sign the card each weekend so that it will be returned on Monday, ready
for the next week.
FRIDAY
FOLDERS - Papers will
come home each Friday. Keep all papers at home as a record of your child’s
grades for the 9 weeks. Sign the
orange card stating that you saw your child’s work and behavior notes.
The orange
