I have been a science teacher for 15 years. All 15 years of teaching have
been in Dallas ISD. I have been teaching at TAG Magnet for the last 9 years.
I spent my first 6 years at Bryan Adams High School in Dallas ISD. I have
been teaching Biology Pre-AP for 15 years. I helped develop Dallas ISD's
Biology I/Pre-AP curriculum and I have been a writer for the Dallas ISD's
Biology I/Pre-AP ACP (Assessment of Course Performance) tests. I have been a
school representative for the Biology I/Pre-AP textbook adoption committee. I
am a left-brained person which probably explains why I am a science teacher!
I want my students to know that Biology is more than just dissecting plants
and animals. It covers a range of topics, with a heavy emphasis on molecular
biology (i.e. how molecules interact during gene expression, how molecules
interact to produce ATP during cellular respiration, how molecules aid in
motor neurons communicating with muscle cells, and etc.). I am firm believer
that science is a "verb". Students will be doing investigations in this
course. Students will also be expected to apply what they have learned in
this course to other educational disciplines. I want my students to become
open-minded, critical thinkers and listeners. I enjoy teaching Biology and I
hope my students leave my class with an interest in Biology too.
