1/24/12 9:54AM We are officially 3 weeks into the new semester, which means we are at the 3-week mark of the 4th 6-weeks. Grades will go in Wednesday for the students' progress reports. You can also see them completely on Home Access. If you have not yet applied for access to this online grade viewing, please contact your principal's office for guidance.
PARENTS - WE HAVE ENTIRELY TOO MANY STUDENTS SHOWING UP WITH INCOMPLETE HOMEWORK OR NO HOMEWORK AT ALL. PLEASE CHECK AT HOME TO MAKE SURE YOUR STUDENT HAS COMPLETED HIS/HER WORK. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO CONTINUOUSLY SHOW UP WITH UNPREPARED FOR CLASS HAVING DONE ZERO WORK AT HOME (EMERGENCIES ASIDE). WE SHOULD BOTH BE WORKING TO HELP YOU STUDENT ACHIEVE A BRIGHTER FUTURE, AND I AM DOING MY PART HERE AT SCHOOL. I NEED HELP FROM THE HOMESTEAD.
Tutorials this week will be Wed/Thurs in the morning, but do not forget about MORNING TUTORIALS ALL WEEK - LIBRARY - 8:15 - 8:55AM. SOS - SATURDAY SCHOOL (NOT DETENTION) - 9AM - 12PM - ROOM D1321 AFTERNOON TUTORIALS EVERYDAY - ROOM C1307 - UNTIL 5:30PM
As you can see, there are plenty of tutorial opportunities for your student to attend should they need extra help. Westwood provides numerous free chances for your student to learn. Should you need a private tutor, that is at your descretion. But very few of my students have tried focusing and just doing their homework the first time around, so you might give that a try before spending lots of money on a tutor.
Thank you. If you need to contact me, please feel free to call or email me (info on "Teacher Info" page).
1/2/12 10:54AM ALL GRADES ARE POSTED AT THIS TIME. PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT THEM ONLINE ON HOME ACCESS. IF YOU HAVE ANY PARTICULAR QUESTIONS BEFORE TOMORROW, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SEND ME AN EMAIL. ALL RETAKES WERE DONE DURING THE SECOND BLOCK OF OUR DOUBLE-BLOCK SCHEDULE (IMMEDATELY AFTER THE EXAM). HOPEFULLY YOUR STUDENTS TOLD YOU HOW IT WENT BY NOW. IF YOU FAILED THE FIRST SEMESTER, YOU CAN STILL PULL YOUR OVERALL AVERAGE UP BY PASSING THE 2ND SEMESTER. LET'S ALL WORK A LITTLE BIT HARDER TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN FROM THE VERY BEGINNING.
I HOPE EVERYBODY HAD A GREAT BREAK! SEE YOU TOMORROW.
11/8/11 5:41PM If you failed to turn in your Vocab project for the 2nd 6-weeks, you have until this Friday to get it turned in for a late grade of 70. Your grade will be adjusted afterwards. I hope you are considering doing it instead of taking a zero, as it drops your average about 15 points.

INSTRUCTIONS DB Algebra I Homework – DUE MONDAY, 10-24-11
1) Go to http://www.studystack.com/flashcard-110557
2) Review all of the vocabulary words listed by clicking on the card to reveal its definition. Do this multiple times until you are familiar with all the words and their definitions.
3) Scroll to the icons at the bottom of the page. Click on “Quiz” and take the quiz. Click “Grade Quiz.” Print it out.
4) Scroll to the icons at the bottom of the page. Click on “Test” and take the test. Print it out after checking. You will be writing a story using these and other vocabulary words over the next 7 days. It will be a project grade (test grade) and will hopefully boost your grade while giving you more knowledge about what we are working on in Algebra I. If you cannot do this at home, try to find a place to do it, or you can use the library.
10/12/11 4:35PM LATE START TOMORROW. TAKE SOME EXTRA TIME IN THE MORNING TO GET SOME REST AFTER STAYING UP TO DO SOME HOMEWORK, OR YOU CAN WAKE UP AND GET SOME MORE WORK DONE BEFORE SCHOOL. REMEMBER - WE HAVE AN ASSESSMENT TOMORROW OVER FUNCTIONS AND RELATIONS.
9/14/11 4:35PM Don't forget about Open House tonight. I will be addressing our class procedures, policies, and atmosphere, as well as explaining options for your child's success. Hope to see you tonight!
As always, you can call or email me with any questions.
9/12/11 12:35AM Reminder - Wednesday night is Meet the Teacher night at Westwood High School. I would love for all parents to attend so that you might hear from the source expectations and maybe find out details that have not been conveyed, exact or otherwise, to you through your student. I will answer any questions you might have in person. PTSA meeting takes place at 6:15, and classes start at 6:35. Hope to see you there!

A message regarding the Home Access Center (parents can check grades/attendance online): We have a new syste for Home Access and not all accounts transferred over. If parents and students cannot access HAC, they need to complete the HAC form. These forms are located in their alpha offices. Once the forms are completed, they should be turned in to E2302. Once Kim Winters (asst. principal) receives the form, she will email the new user name and password to the email listed on the form. Parents and students can not do this electronically as the ability to "register on line" is not working at this time. There does not seem to be a reason some accounts are working and some are not. HAC also looks a little different this year since it is coming from eSchoolPlus, and some parents and students could not locate the tab to bring up grades. Please direct all calls and emails to Kim Winters. Forms will be available during Open House, and she will enter them just as quickly as possible.
From Coach Kawazoe: You should see a progress report to be signed and brought back either tonight or last Friday (my sub did not hand them out to 3rd period, so they will get them tonight). They are to be signed by a parent and brought back for my files for a quiz grade of 100. Students can turn it in one day late for a 90, a third day for a 70, and after that, it will be a zero. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you have. Thanks.
9/2/11 8:35AM Parents and Students: With the 1st 6-weeks already a third of the way over, I think it is important to review all the new experiences the students have learned. As you may know, Westwood is a highly rated academic school in the nation, and the curriculum can be somewhat overwhelming, with homework demands and high expectations. I know for my classes, I have the highest of expectations for each student. This includes ALWAYS coming to class on time and prepared (Math binder, homework, writing/grading materials, mentally ready to focus on Algebra I). We have just taken our first assessment over review items from 8th Grade Math, and I am hoping to put high marks in my grade book after I grade them.
Parents - As you may know, you will have the ability to view your student's grades at any time via Home Access Center (HAC). You simply need to follow the directions listed at the top of my homework page (if they have changed, please let me know so that I might correct them). If a student has a zero, it is 99.9% likely that he/she did not turn in that assignment, be it due to absence or lack of effort. Either way, it needs to be taken care of in a timely manner. I will begin to assign tutorials for missing work, and possibly failing grades that need to be "redone" for a 70. I know I can count on you, the parents, to support this process and ensure the success of your child.
Please feel free to contact me anytime with comments or questions.
Thanks.
