Sept. 5 - Discuss the reading from p. 81-86.  Turn in your work from p. 81-
86, 74-80, 68-72, and the reading quiz we took on p. 74-80.  Do the northwest 
passage side of the Columbus worksheet we got on Wednesday.  Correct and turn 
it in.  Spend the remaining time putting the finishing touches on your 
narrative poems.  We'll present them on Monday, Sept. 8.

Sept. 4 - After taking a reading quiz, on p. 74-80, we discussed our 
responses.  For tomorrow, read p. 81-86.  Then do Section Assessment, p. 86, 
#6.  Continue to work on narrative poems, which are due on Monday, Sept. 8

Sept. 3 - Begin with the worksheet, "Columbus's First Voyage."  Then discuss 
the work from p. 68-72.  For tomorrow, read p. 74-80, and do Section 
Assessment, p. 80, #7 and Critical Thinking and Writing, p. 98, #16.  
Continue to work on narrative poems.

Sept. 2 - Fifth period, correct and turn in the wind/ocean current 
worksheet.  Read "The Highwayman" as an example of narrative poetry.  Get 
instructions for the explorer narrative poem and draw for explorers.  Poems 
are due on Monday, Sept. 8. We'll have some more time to work on them 
tomorrow.   Read p. 68-72 in the textbook and do the Section Assessment, p. 
72, #5 and #8.  It's due tomorrow.

August 29 - Discuss and turn in the work from p. 58-60.  Fifth period also 
took a reading quiz on p. 58-60.  Do a worksheet on wind and ocean currents.  
Third period finished and turned it in; fifth period will correct and turn it 
in on Tuesday.

August 28 - Third period began by discussing the map-making experience, while 
fifth period took a constitution pre-test.  Both classes read p. 58-60.  
Identify (write a sentence or two) how the following affected early 
exploration:  1. the Crusades; 2. new navigational tools; 3. the invention of 
the printing press; 4. Italian and Muslim merchants; 5. Prince Henry.  It's 
due tomorrow.

August 27 - Correct and turn in the texbook preview worksheet.  With a pre-
assigned group, do a map-making activity.  Fifth period finished, while third 
period will turn theirs in tomorrow.

August 26 - Check out textbooks.  Correct map and trivia quiz.  Third period 
also took a civics quiz.  Go over the reference sections in the textbook.  
Complete the textbook preview worksheet.  It's due tomorrow.

August 25 - Go over disclosure statement, class procedures.  Take map quiz 
and American trivia quiz.
