Sept. 4 - Sixth period, start a new journal today, Weeks 2&3.  For journal, 
do a show-me paragraph, providing specific reasons to support your opinion.  
Topic is "_____________ music is the best."  Try using transition words 
(first, furthermore, in addition, etc.) to move from reason to reason.  Sixth 
period, discuss and turn in the group work from "Lady or the Tiger."  Work on 
the informational piece that goes with "Lady or the Tiger."  First, do 
Vocabulary Development, p. 313.  Then read the article, "A Defense of the 
Jury System," p. 310.  Do the yellow-box questions on p. 311, #3 and 2.  Then 
do the test practice on p. 312. First period also did the grammar link on p. 
307.    You can put all this work on the same paper as your "Lady or the 
Tiger" questions. 

Sept. 3 - We went for school pictures today, so we were a bit short on class 
time.  For journal, do a DOL.  See me if you missed this.    Do a group 
discussion on "The Lady or the Tiger?"  Sixth period, we'll finish our class 
discussion tomorrow.  We'll also turn in the written work on the story 
tomorrow. 

Sept. 2 - For journal today, do a personal narrative (5-sentence minimum):  
September is National Courtesy Month.  Where do you think we, as a nation, 
state, city, or school community fall on the courtesy scale?  What do we do 
well?  What should we improve on? etc.  Do vocabulary worksheet for "Lady or 
the Tiger."  Test/worksheet due on Friday, Sept. 5.  Copy literary term, 
dilemma.  Be sure to get this from someone if you were absent. On p. 298 in 
the literature book, read "The Lady, or the Tiger?" Do Response and Analysis, 
p. 305, #5, 8, and 10.  Be sure to incorporate enough of the question into 
your answer so that the point is clear.  This is due tomorrow, Wednesday, 
Sept. 3. 

August 29 - For journal today, do sentence expanding.  At a sentence level, 
add specific detail to make them "show, not tell" sentences.  Starters are: 
1. It was a special pizza; 2. She looked old.  Turn in the vocabulary 
worksheet and take the vocabulary test for "Fifty-first Dragon."  Sixth 
preiod, finish and turn in the writing extension exercise (pensee poems) 
for "Fifty-first Dragon."  Both classes, do two parts-of-speech review 
worksheets ("Identifying Nouns, Verbs, and Adjectives/Identifying English 
Grammar" and "Suffixes").  First period finished and turned them in.  Sixth 
period will correct and turn in on Tuesday.

August 28 - For journal today, do a show-me paragraph.  The object is 
to "show, not tell."  Provide specific details to show the event/idea.  Write 
a minimum of five sentences.  The topic is, "The morning was a disaster."  Do 
the language link worksheet for "Fifty-first Dragon" (complete sentences vs. 
fragments).  Do the writing extension (pensee poems) for "Fifty-first 
Dragon."  Sixth period, we'll take a few minutes to finish tomorrow.  
Remember our vocabulary test tomorrow.

August 27 - For journal today, do a DOL.  See me if you missed this.  Turn 
in "Fifty-first Dragon" reader's response.  Do group work on "Fifty-first 
Dragon."

August 26 - Go over journal-writing procedure.  Today, write a personal 
narrative (five-sentence minimum) using this starter:  My physical safety was 
in doubt when... Start a glossary of literary terms, copying exposition, 
conflict, climax, and resolution.  Read "The Fifty-first Dragon."  Reader's 
response questions are due tomorrow.

August 25 - Go over disclosure statements.  Please read, sign, and return by 
Friday, August 29.  Copy "Writing Vocabulary Sentences."  Do the vocabulary 
worksheet for "Fifty-first Dragon."  It's due on Friday, when we will have a 
test.
