About Mr. Byrom

Mr. Byrom was born in Page, Arizona. In his spare time he plays the cello
and enjoys making new things, as well as, spending time with his wife,
Courtney and three little girls, Alice, Kaylie, and Marissa. He graduated from
BYU with a double major in Manufacturing Engineering Technology and Technology
Teacher Education. He finished a Master's Degree in Teaching with Technology and
was awarded new technology teacher of the year. This is his seventh year
teaching and plans to continue making improvements to the classes.

Class Descriptions

CTE INTRO - This class is a required class for 7th grade. The purpose is to
give students an exploration in many different areas so they can better see
what they like. It also helps them to start thinking about what they would
like to do later in life for a career. They spend one third of the school
year in my classroom learning about how technology is used in our every day
lives and careers.

GATEWAY TO TECHNOLOGY- This is an elective class for the 8th and 9th grade.
It is a good class to take if you enjoyed my section of CTE intro. The
focus for this class is learning how to design and create projects using
hand drawing and computer modeling. It then focuses on the science behind
technology by having students design simple machines. The rest of the class
teaches the students how to use some of the shop equipment to make some
simple projects. I would like students to take this class before taking
GTE or Manufacturing.

GATEWAY TO ENGINEERING- This class is an elective course for ninth grade
students intended to follow Gateway to Technology. The curriculum is more
challenging and involves a good deal of group work. Students use
fischertechniks to build working mechanisms. They then need to use problem
solving skills to wire the mechanisms electrically and program them to move
using a picture based program language. This is intended to give them a
taste of what it is like to be a Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer
Engineer. We then move into the magic of electrons unit. This unit teaches
how electricity works and how logic gates are used. Soldering irons will be
used to make simple electrical circuits. Students in this class also get to
design computer games.

MANUFACTURING- This is an elective course for 9th grade. It involves more
advanced projects using different types of materials and manufacturing
processes. This is to teach the students about how everyday products are
made in the real world. This class is hands on and uses practically every
machine in the shop. Students should have the desire to learn how to use the
machines safely and create projects with craftsmanship. Pictures of the
projects that we make can be found in the manufacturing gallery on this
website.
