Class Rules/ Expectations
The citizenship policies for this course are outlined in the Wasatch Jr. High student planner. Please follow the school rules with respect to behavior and attendance while in class. Failure to do so will result in immediate and consistent intervention depending on the severity of the infraction. Remember: no food or personal electronics (phones) please. Be nice to everyone and you will have some friends!
Assignments
Throughout this course students will be asked to think critically about the material and show mastery of the subject by participating in and completing various research assignments and class activities including, but not limited to, group reading and discussions, class-wide reading and discussions, debate preparation, research and participation opportunities, etc. Students will also be required to complete homework assignments every week. The material covered as homework will be discussed and reviewed in class and will appear along with other topics in the tests administered throughout the term.
Late/Make Up Work
Students with excused absences will be allowed the same number of days they were absent to make up and turn in work for full credit before points are deducted from the assignment. Students without an excuse for being absent or students who fail to meet assignment deadlines will have one week (five school days) to turn in work before it will no longer be accepted. It is important to note that in these cases points will be deducted from the assignment for each day it is late. If a student is absent for a test or project deadline they will be expected to turn in the assignment or take the test immediately upon returning to school.

Class Materials
Please come prepared everyday with a pencil or pen (blue or black ink only, thanks) everyday as well as a three-ring notebook (binder) with lined paper. It is very important that you get a notebook and bring it along with your disclosure signatures the day after you receive this form. This will be used to keep daily notes and research and is an indicator of your participation in the course. Your notebook will be checked periodically with or without prior notice.
FERPA- Notice
Please be advised that students will be asked to edit and grade each other's work and performance. Getting involved in the process of giving peers meaningful and informed feedback is an important part of thinking deeply about the material. Students will also be asked to participate in numerous class presentations and oral report assignments.
Academic Honesty Policy
Please do not plagiarize the work of others and do not allow peers to copy your work as well. Students who violate this aspect of the code of conduct and turn in work that was done by others or allow this to be done to their own work will earn a zero on the assignment in question and also a zero in their citizenship records. Stealing other people's jokes is also highly discouraged.
