CITIZENSHIP, TARDY POLICY, RULES

Citizenship is based on Wasatch Jr. High’s guidelines for citizenship grades and includes both behavior in the classroom and amount of tardies students acquire throughout the quarter.  Wasatch Jr. High’s guidelines for tardies and school rules will also apply (see school planner for details).

ASSIGNMENTS, ASSESSMENTS, AND PARTICIPATION

- Assignments turned in after they are due will be accepted for one week.  Points will be deducted from the assignment each day it is not turned in.  Assignments missed because of an absence need to be made up ASAP (for policies regarding absences, please see the homework policy found in the school planner).  Students are responsible for finding and completing work when they are absent.  Current events will be completed every two weeks. These (including notebook packets) are worth 55% of student’s grade.

-Quizzes will be given periodically.  Notice will be given before the quiz is given.  Tests will be in question (matching, multiple choice, essay, etc.) form.  Occasionally, there will also be map tests.  These are worth 30% of student’s grade.

-Participation Points are earned through active participation in the following: class preparedness, being on task (following directions), good behavior, oral participation/volunteering, and classroom involvement (actively listening, group assignments, etc).  Students can earn 5 points per day and points will be recorded at the end of each week.  Students will lose points if these requirements are not met.  These points are worth 15% of student’s grade.

-Notebook packets:  Students will be expected to keep a packet of notes, maps, and other class related information throughout the quarter.  These packets will be turned in at the end of each chapter/unit.

**Students are to turn in only work they themselves have done. Students who turn in work done by another student as their own will receive a zero on the assignment with no possibility of making up the points. They will also receive a zero in citizenship. Students who enable other students to turn in work they have not done will be subject to the same penalties.**

To allow students to learn from others by both giving and receiving feedback and to assist me in using instructional time as efficiently as possible, I will occasionally have students check/grade one another’s work.  Student work samples will also be posted in the classroom.  Your signature on this disclosure indicates that you give permission for peer grading and individual work to be posted.  This permission is valid for the duration of the course.
