MISSION STATEMENT: Every student has the right to learn in a safe and positive environment.
COURSE DISCRIPTION: Spanish 2 is the first upper level Spanish course designed to prepare students for Spanish 3. It is a course built upon the foundation established in Spanish 1 and is designed to expand students' listening and reading comprehension, writing skills, and conversational skills. Students will recognize and understand the use of reflexives, -ing, two past tenses, the present, future, and command tenses. Students will be given reading exercises (in Spanish) to improve vocabulary, grammar, and conversational skills. Directions and descriptions will also be emphasized in this class.
Spanish 3 is the the second upper level Spanish course. The purpose is to build upon the foundation of Spanish 1 and 2 and expand the student's ability to comprehend and use reflexives, -ing, three past tenses, the present, future, command, direct and indirect objects, and the subjunctive. Immersion lessons will include art, history, literature, science, city life, food, anecdotes, the environment, money, people, current events, pets, poetry, and "wishing upon a star". Students will review directions, locations, and description. Stories and story telling will be emphasized in this course. Students will be exposed to news broadcasts in Spanish. Spanish 2 and 3 will be conducted in Spanish. If students find themselves frustrated, I am available after school to help them comprehend the material presented in class.
As always, students are encouraged to use Spanish in and outside the classroom. VIDEOS: All videos are used for instructional purposes, not entertainment. Videos will be shown in Spanish and in accordance with district policy.
WHAT STUDENTS CAN DO---CLASS RULES: Students will be expected to . . . · Arrive on time--- 3 Tardies = ASD and a lowering of citizenship grade (District's policy.) · Be prepared-- See supplies needed · Be respectful --to me (the teacher), to all students—Remember the “personal bubble!” · Be respectful -- to YOURSELF! You are important! · Be on task-- No sleeping in class, especially during videos. · Be positive in words and actions · Be honest--- Honesty = Integrity. No cheating, guys! · Honor the dress code— (It's in the handbook)
*NO ELECTRONICS in the classroom (this includes cell phones, guys!)—see handbook— If I see it or hear it, I take it away NO backpacks or large bookbags *NO food, NO drinks (except water), NO gum in class.
CONSEQUENCES for Breaking Class Rules: Students who choose to violate class rules will have the following consequences: · 1st Offense = signing clipboard (Warning) · 2nd Offense = signing clipboard + sent to hall + call to parents · 3rd Offense = ASD + call to parents + conference with you and your parent
*ARGUING with the teacher, INSUBORDINATION (rebellion), HARASSMENT in ANY form will earn you an immediate trip to the office + ASD + a conference with you and your parent (s).
REWARDS FOR GOOD CHOICES: (yeah!) Keeping the rules = a happy teacher, happy classmates, and happy self Happy teachers and happy classes = games on Game Day; fiestas on Fiesta Days; cultural activities on Culture Days.
MORE EXPECTATIONS: · Write your name AND period on all papers turned in— No names = no points · Handouts are to be kept in your notebook. · There will be planner, notebook, supply checks, and “pop quizzes.” · Check my Web Page every evening for the latest announcements. · Students are expected to keep a copy of the disclosure statement in their notebook. · Textbooks will be kept in the classroom (unless you want to check one out).
WHAT TO BRING TO CLASS EVERYDAY: Planner Notebook with paper Pencils or pens (NO permanent markers) Colored pencils or pens (minimum of 4 different colors) Highlighter Large eraser
NOTE: My classroom is “G” rated, maintains safe standards, and promotes a positive and learning atmosphere. You are in my class to learn Spanish. It is natural for students to make mistakes during the learning process. Be kind to each other! REMEMBER---- Ridiculing the language, each other, or any culture or religion will not be tolerated!
GRADING POLICY: Point / percentage system--- 94-100% = A 90-93% = A- 88-89% = B+ 84-87% = B 80- 83% = B- 78-79% = C+ 74-77% = C 70-73% = C- 68-69% = D+ 64-67% = D 60- 63% = D- 59% and below = F Grades are derived from measurable assessments—assignments, quizzes, tests, and participation. Late work (points will be lowered by 50%)—see handbook.
Missed tests / quizzes --upon returning to class from an absence, students will be given the missed test or quiz in class for full points. If a student chooses to not take the exam at that time, he or she may take it later but for reduced points. Students will have one week to take the missed exam or quiz. Retakes are given after school within 7 days after original test has been returned to students (students who do well on the retake tests will have 5 points added to their original score).
NO RETAKES OR MAKE UPS the last 3 weeks of each term. |
