INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA CLASS
Mrs. Reese

Prerequisite:
Geometry with a ‘C’ or higher grade.

Description:
Students will explore linear, exponential, and rational functions, system of
equations, matrices, polynomials, complex and irrational numbers,
quadratics, and trigonometric functions.

Objective:
Students will develop problem-solving strategies, be able to graph various
types of functions and draw conclusions. They will perform operations on
polynomials; develop skills in solving and graphing non-linear equations.
They will use trigonometric functions and equations to solve real-world
problems.Technology will play a good part of this class. (Computers,
calculators, Internet data)

Materials/Calculator:
Students will need a pencil, plenty of paper, and their note-taking guide.
Colored pencils will be used for some graphs and projects. A graphing
calculator is recommended. We will be using the TI-84 in the class. (This
calculator is also used in the next math class.)

Assignments:
Assignments will usually be given on a daily basis. They are to be done on
standard size paper and in pencil and all work must be shown. The student is
responsible for getting the assignments when not in class. The assignments
will be turned in as a packet every 2 weeks. Assignments not turned in on
time will not be accepted. The student will have opportunities to ask for
help on each assignment the following day. Assignments will be graded in
class. Each student will be given a FREE PASS card to use for one late
assignment. It is to be stapled to the completed late work and turned in.

Quizzes/Tests:
Quizzes will be given from the previous assignments. There will be a chapter
test for each chapter studied. Students will have note-taking guides to use
on assignments and tests. Missed tests and quizzes can be made up when the
student returns to school within in one week.

Grading:
Grades are based on the following breakdown, and will be updated on a
regular basis.

			Assignments: 30%
			Tests: 35%
                        Quizzes: 25%
			Projects/Participation: 10%

		A 93-100
                A- 90-92
                B+ 87-89
                B 84-86

Citizenship:
Grades are based on the students’ behavior and on making an honest effort to
succeed. One unexcused absence (sluff) is a “1” and two is a “0”.

Tardies:
The grade will be based on the school policy for tardies: 2 tardies = 3, 3
tardies = 2 and parent is contacted, 4 tardies = 1, 5 tardies = 0 and an
