GEOMETRY CLASS
Mrs. Reese

Prerequisite:
Algebra 1 with a ‘C’ or higher grade.

Description:
The major postulates and theorems of Euclidean geometry form the basis of
this course. Logical structures are investigated. Geometric constructions
and coordinate geometry are studied. Students should be able to investigate
geometry concepts using technology and paper/pencil then draw conclusions.
Trigonometry concepts are applied to appropriate geometry concepts.

Objective:
To develop techniques and problem solving strategies to solve and prove in a
variety of situations. Gain the ability to use mathematics in today’s world.
Improve critical thinking skills. Learn to communicate both orally and in
writing. Benefit from on-going review.

Materials/Calculator:
Students will need a pencil, plenty of paper. A scientific calculator is
recommended. A graphing calculator will be used at times in the class. We
will have some available to use; however, if you wish to purchase one it
will be of use to them in future math classes. Students will also need
colored pencils at times, a compass, protractor, and ruler.

Assignments:
Assignments will usually be given on a regular basis. They are to be done on
standard size paper and in pencil. The student is responsible for getting
the assignments when not in class. The assignments will be due the next
class period. Assignments not turned in on time will be given 1 extra day
and then will not be accepted. (3 missing assignments will be dropped.)The
student will have opportunities to ask for help on each assignment the
following class. Assignments will be corrected in class. Each student will
be given a FREE PASS for one late assignment. It must be stapled to a
completed assignment and turned in.

Quizzes/Tests: Quizzes will be given from the previous assignment at
the end of 2-3 sections in each chapter. There will be 1 test for each
chapter. Missed tests and quizzes can be made up within 1 week of the
test/quiz.

YPP (Yearly Progress Pro) Testing:
Students will be taking a weekly computer test to gauge their learning as
they progress through geometry. This test takes 15 minutes and must be
completed in the week that it is assigned. Students can take the test at
7:20am, 2:50pm, or during class, if they are finished with all work. There
will be a participation grade given for each week that they take the test
and will be part of their grade.

Grading: Grades are based on the following breakdown, and will be
         updated on a regular basis.

			Homework: 30%
			Tests: 40%
                        Quizzes: 20%
			Projects/YPP: 10%

		A 92-100
                A- 89-91
                B+ 85-88
                B 81-84
                B- 78-80
                C+ 75-77
                C 71-74
                C- 68-70
                D+ 65-67
                D 61-64
                D- 56-60
                F 0-55

Citizenship:
Grades are based on the students’ behavior and on making an honest effort to
succeed. One unexcused absence (sluff) is a “1” and two is a “0”.

Tardies:
The grade will be based on the school policy for tardies: 2 tardies = 3, 3
tardies = 2 & parents contacted, 4 tardies = 1 and after school detention, 5
tardies = 0 and an After School Detention. More than 5 tardies will result
in Detention, In-School suspension and/or school suspension.
