If I'm absent, how long do I have to get in the assignment for credit?

Your student has one day for each day he/she has been absent after
returning from being absent to turn in the missed work. Special
arrangements will be made for students who are absent for extended
periods of time.

How long do I have to make up a test after being absent?

Your student has five school days (Monday through Thursday) to
make up a test after being absent. Makeup tests are administered
after school. Tests not made up after five days will receive an M
for no credit. Students who need more time for any special reason
need to make arrangement with me to do so. Additional days are
provided for more than one day of absence.

Do you offer any extra credit during the term?

Yes, most assignments and tests have built in points for extra
credit when the student does much better than his/her peers. I also
offer extra credit for getting the National Spanish Exam Log in
early. It is not my intent to have extra credit makeup for missed
work. Please encourage your student to get all the work in.

Can my student get extra help if he/she needs it?

Yes, tutoring sessions are available Monday through Thursday after
school from 2:50 - 3:30 p.m. and 12:30-1:15 p.m. on Fridays.
There is no charge for the tutoring sessions. Advanced notice
that your student is participating is encouraged, but I do allow
walk-ins.

What can my student do outside of class to increase Spanish fluency?

I recommend your student read aloud in Spanish using any Spanish
material that you feel is suitable. Oral practice out loud brings
some remarkable results in increased fluency. We do a lot of oral
work in the class and you should encourage your student to take
advantage of that opportunity to increase fluency. Oral
participation is essential and is 40% of the weighted grade.

How often do you have tests?

This varies, but on average about once a week. Some tests are
written and some are oral. Most tests will be announced well in
advance and the date will be posted on the board. Tests are also
announced on my website found on the school web page under FACULTY.

Can my student makeup tardies?

No. 3 tardies = 2 in citizenship
4 tardies = 1 in citizenship
5 tardies = 0 in citizenship

This is according to District policy.

What is the National Spanish Exam?

A national test sponsored by the national Association of Teachers
of Spanish and Portuguese. It is like the SAT, but its testing
demonstrates mastery in reading, vocabulary, grammar and listening
comprehension. This year the test will be taken from Practice
Tests given in the past. The economic conditions of this year
made it impossible to fund test taking or to have students pay for
their own test.
