Unit 3 Measuring Using Guidelines to Find Spatial Relationships Daily Forecast Quick Draws – 10pts. Homework Sketches To be done in the sketchbook 20pts. Complete 5Line Drawingsusing the strategies learned in class. They should all be done through careful observation of the subject and at least 20 minutes should be spent on each drawing. Use a red pencil to draw guidelines. Use a regular pencil for contour drawing. Do not erase any guidelines. No rulers allowed.

Unit 2 Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain Learning to perceive in order to draw 2/27 – 3/20 Daily Forecast Quick Draws – 15pts. Day 1 - Quick Draw – Contour: Make a contour line drawing of your hand Mon.2/27 focusing on the contours of its edges. Instruction: Drawing on the right side of the brain. Day 2 - Quick Draw - Symbol System: Draw from your symbol system, a man Tue. 2/28 with glasses, sitting in a chair with hands clasped in his lap. Assignment 2-1– Upside down drawing: Students learn to see people and objects as just lines and shapes by turning the picture upside down. Day 3 - Quick Draw – Cognitive Shift: Draw the picture on the screen. Make a Wed. 2/29 cognitive shift and draw the other picture on the screen. Assignment 2-1 –Upside Down Drawing (Homework ). Assignment 2-2 – Blind Contour Drawing: Students learn to connect the movement of their eye to the movement of their pencil as they follow the contour of an edge. Day 4 - Quick Draw – Contour Drawing: Choose an object that you have with Thu.3/1 you or can see in the room and do a contour drawing focusing on the edges. Assignment 2-2 – Contour Drawings (Homework ). Assignment 2-3 – Shapes Drawing: Students learn to see 3 dimensional forms as flat shapes in order to draw those images on a 2D drawing paper. Day 7 - Quick Draw – Negative Shape: Create a negative shape with your index Wed. 3/7 finger and thumb. Draw only the negative shape that you see. Assignment 2-4: Negative Shape Boxer: Students learn to focus on negative shapes in order to see spatial relationships and stay in the right brain. Day 8 - Quick Draw – Placement: Draw only the negative shapes created by the Thu.3/8 stools on the front desk. Have the ends of the legs go off the top and bottom edges of your paper. Unit 1 February 1 - 24 In this unit, students will learn the three aspects of a work of art, Subject Matter, Composition, and Content. They will learn the Elements of Art and how to use them to express content. They will learn the Principles of Design and how to use them to organize the elements into good composition. They will think critically and follow creative process to come up with their designs and then learn to critique those designs and learn from theirs and other’s works.
Daily Forecast Quick Draws – 15pts. Day 1 - Quick Draw – Subject Matter:Draw a picture of your favorite subject matter. Instruction:Introduction to art education/Subject Matter, Composition, and Content/expressive v. representational/creative process. Assignment 1-1 - Disclosures Day 2 - Quick Draw – Composition: Create a unique composition with a basketball Instruction: The elements of art Day 3 - Quick Draw – Content:Draw a picture of an inanimate object but abstract it to create sadness as the content. (do not use facial expressions). Assignment 1-2 –Semantic Webs:Students use semantic webs to brainstorm and explore possible content for their designs. (Homework) Day 4 - Quick Draw – Representational art:Find something in the room that you can draw exactly as you see (representational). Instruction: Using elements of art to express content. Day 5 - Quick Draw – Geometric:Draw your favorite pet but use only geometric shapes. Assignment 1-3 – Thumbnail Sketches:Students Describe verbally how they will use the elements of art to express the content visually. Day 6 - Quick Draw – High Contrast:Create a dramatic drawing by using high contrast values. Assignment 1-3 – Thumbnail Sketches:Students draw thumbnail sketches using elements of art as they described them(Homework). Day 7 - Quick Draw – Emphasis:Create emphasis with the element of value in the lower left corner of your Drawing space. Instruction: Principles of Design Day 8 - Quick Draw - Rhythm:Draw a picture of your friends or family. Create rhythm in the design. Instruction: Using principles of design to improve your designs. Assignment 1-4 – Design Charts/Final Sketches Day 9 - Quick Draw - Movement: Draw something withmovement as an important part of the design using the element of line. Assignment 1-4 - Design Charts/Final Sketches (Homework) Day 10 - Quick Draw – Format:Create a Circular format for a drawing of your choice. Instruction: Unit 1 Homework – Principles of Design Stippeling Assignment 1-5– Expressive/Non-Objective Work of Art:Students use their designs from their creative process to create a final work of art. Day 11 - Quick Draw - Stippling:Draw your favorite sports ball and stipple it to give it value slowly going from dark to light. Assignment 1-5 – Expressive, Non-Objective Work of Art (Contd.) Day 12 - Quick Draw – Craftsmanship:Draw a squiggly line down the center of your paper. Then draw two lines to the left and two to the right making all lines evenly spaced. Assignment 1-5 – Expressive, Non-Objective Work of Art (Homework). Assignment 1-6 – Critique of Expressive Work:Students learn to look critically at a work of art and the steps of a critique. Day 13 - Quick Draw – Critique:Write an objective description of the design on the screen. Assignment 1-6 – Critique of Expressive Work (Homework).
Homework 15 pts. Students will find 7 works of art, each one a good example of one of the principles of design, one work of art for each of the 7 principles. They will not draw the work but rather cut and paste it into their sketchbook. They will then identify the principle and state what elements the artist used to follow that principle and how he/she used them.
