Assalamu Alaikum 1stGrade Parents,

Class News 

Class Requests :

(1) We will be studying about natural resources and animals soon. Our class would appreciate any animal parts that can be donated like teeth, feathers, skin, tails, insect shells, very large seashells or deer antlers. We would also like to start a rock and mineral collection.  We're looking for fossils, geodes, rocks and petrified wood.

(2) We will be studying about plants in a couple of months.  We would like to have a large seed collection enough for our experiments and projects.  Parents,  please start collecting as many seeds as you can (apple seeds, lemon seeds, mango seeds, avocado seeds, strawberry seeds, etc...).The seeds are to be washed and dried then placed in a labelled ziplock bag.   


*What We Studied This Week
We started our Space Unit this week.  During the We Can Fly lab at the Udvar Hazy Museum,  students learned about airports, airplanes, flight forces and the Wright Brothers.  Our students did really well mashaAllah in that class.  The lab teacher and tour guide were very impressed with our students' knowledge and understanding of the concepts.     

Volunteer Hours 
It has also been brought to my attention that some of you may be trying to finish their first half of their assigned volunteer hours.  I do request that you do not hastily "waste" those precious volunteer hours as we do NEED help with organizing our class library, chaperones on field trips, field day organizer, market day shopping and at-home projects. 

(1) Organizing our Library 
We need a parent to come in to label and organize our class library.  This can be done over several days or on one day (depending on your schedule).  You can do it when you drop off your child in the morning, or half an hour before dismissal.  We can always work with your schedule.  We need all the help we can get ! 
(2) Setting up in class bulletin boards
(3) At-Home projects : cutting, laminating, copying , printing etc.... 
(4) Chaperones for the upcoming field trips :  3 hours Nature Walk ,  4 hours Aesop's Fables show 
(5) Field Day volunteer -  5 hours
(6) Organizing our online photos page 
(7) Cubby Box Labelling

Thank you to all the parents whom have remembered to send in a pack to our class.  If you haven't , please consider buying some this weekend and send it in on Monday.  Thank you !!
