Ann Raheem is very happy to be starting her 5th year at Al Fatih Academy.
Born and raised in Colorado, she moved to Virginia 4 years ago to be close to
family.
Teaching has always been her vocation, and after doing her share of traveling
around some parts of the world (most notably Spain and Thailand), she settled
in to doing her Masters in English as a Second Language and Education at the
University of Hawai'i.
With over fourteen years of teaching experience, mostly in public schools,
Ann is happy to be in a Muslim school. As her own children, ages 9 and
6, reached school age, she and her husband wanted a more Islamic
environment for them, and Ann is more comfortable herself as well.
Ann believes that an integrated curriculum is more interesting and beneficial
to students (as well as to the teacher), and incorporates hands-on activities
where she can. She has a strong committment to social justice and a firm
belief that every child can learn and has the right and obligation to do so.
Ann has taught at the high school and middle school levels, and is currently
enjoying working with elementary school children.
Al Fatih Academy’s vision is to be a model Islamic learning community that
inspires a commitment to excellence in all aspects of life. Its mission is to
cultivate and nurture a thriving American Muslim identity that balances
religious, academic and cultural knowledge and imparts the importance of
civic involvement and charitable work. Through an interdisciplinary and
integrated programming approach, we strive to create an educational
environment that unites students, teachers, family, and community to provide
an exceptional learning experience.
