Our school system operates a Homework Hotline Monday-Thursday evenings from 
5 P.M. until 7:30 P.M.  Help is provided in math and language arts for 
students in grades 1-5.  Students may call this number for help at home:  
473-5285.

Check with your child's teacher about any other help that might be available 
here at school in the afternoons.


"The Power of One", a 24 minute video available in Guidance shows in a 
special way that sometimes ONE person really can make a difference.  This is 
available to use with your families.  Please see Mrs. Collier to check out 
this video.

CHKD will present several great workshops this spring and summer.  You may 
register on line at www.chkd.org/classes or call 668-7500 for more 
information.   The spring workshops are as follows:

"Communicating with Love"    A workshop based on the book The Five Love 
Languages of Children        June 3    7-8 PM

"Positive Discipline"        Learn about discipline techniques that work 
without yelling, arguing or spanking.
                             June 18   9:30-11:30 AM   VB Central Library

Summer workshops include:
"Stress and the Family"      Learn how a busy lifestyle can negatively 
affect children and hear suggestions for easing stress in your family.
                             June 24   7-8:30 PM

"Nutrition Tips in a Fast-food World"    Even many 10 year old children are 
afraid of being fat.  Learn to identify ways to set your family on the right 
path for a healthy lifestyle.July 16   9:30-11:00 AM   VB Central Library

"Today's Young Athlete--How do you measure success?"   Sports psychologist 
Joel Fish will identify symptoms of competitive stress and show parents how 
they can help their athlete become successful on and off the field.
                             August 26  7-9 PM
 
Mentoring Children of Prisoners (MCP) is a free program available to young 
people ages 4-18 whose parent(s) is currently incarcerated.  Each child is 
paired with an adult who takes the role of a friend--not a substitute 
parent.  This service is offered through Seton House Shelters.  For more
