Today my child had library, but said she had to sit on the bench. Why?

Students check out new library books during the first 20 minutes
of library class.
If a student forgot to bring back her previously checked
out library
book then she has to wait in a supervised area and read until the class
has finished checkout.

My child returned his book, but he hasn't brought a new one home.

Some of the K and 1st grade students don't checkout over the long
holiday
breaks. Other times a student may have been pulled from Resource
Class to
attend to other academic needs. Or, the previous library book may
be sitting
in the child's locker, cubby, or desk. If you can't get a clear
answer from
the child, call the school and ask to be connected to the library.
Mrs. Jones
or Mrs. Langston will check the status of the book and recheck
the shelves.

Are overdue fines charged?

No. A student cannot checkout until the current book is returned,
but no fines are
charged. If the book is lost or damaged, then the book must be
paid for.

What are the rules for checkout?

Number of books: K-1 is allowed to check out one book at a time;
2-4 gets two.
Exchanging books: If a student has finished reading and taking an
AR test on
the library book(s), then he/she may return them at a time
convenient to the
teacher,and get new books.
During scheduled classroom visits to the library, all books must
be returned or renewed.

My child doesn't have library class on the same day each week. Help!

With so many students at ACES, the resource classes are on a 7-
day school
rotation. Since library class is different every week, students
are instructed
to keep their library books in their bookbag or school desk when
not reading.
This will ensure that students have their library books with them
so matter
what day it is.
