Can I bring treats to celebrate my child's birthday?

Yes. Please let me know ahead of time so I can plan accordingly.
Just jot a quick note the day before, so that I know to expect a
birthday treat!
Note: Healthy snacks prefered. Individually
wrapped treats or non-edible treats work great! Some parents
send in money to buy ice cream for the class. Cupcakes are very
messy and the kids generally only eat the frosting! If you would like
to send cupcakes, lunch time would be a great time to bring them in.
The class can have them in the cafteria for dessert after eating thier lunch.
IMPORTANT: If your child has any food alergies, please make sure
that I am aware of it!!! Thanks:)

Thanks!

How can I help my child?

Reading with your child is the most important activity you can do.
Also, check their Red Communication Folder and back pack daily.
In the folder you will find classwork and/or assignments to go
over with your child, as well as important notes and forms that
may need to be returned to school. Make sure to ask your child
every day what they did in school.

What should I do if I have a question about my child's progress?

Please call and make an appointment with me. I have an open door
policy and believe that excellent communication between the home
and school is the only way to ensure that all children in my
classroom are successful. I would be happy to meet with you
during my planning time (1:15-1:50) or after school to discuss
any issue. You can also call me at school (540) 477-2927.

What is the Room Parent Program at ALES?

This is a very exciting program that allows for increased
parental awarness and involvement in the classroom There is a
tremendous amount of pressure placed on teachers today, and they
are often without enough resources and time to complete all the
tasks. Also, increaed parental involvement improves the quality
of education--not only for your child, but for the entire student
body. One of the best ways to support your child and their
teacher is to be an active partner in your child's classroom.
Here are some examples of typical room parent opportunities:

* Schedule parents for DEAR (Drop Everything And Read)
* Communicate classroom needs to parents
* Assist with PTO activities or help with functions going on
within the classroom or grades.
* Serve as a liaison between the teacher and the classroom
parents
* Get parents involved

These are just a few examples of how room parents can help, there
are many other ways and the degree of involvement will be at the
teacher's discretion. Room parents do not have to do all the
work for the classroom themselves, but coordinate the work needed
in the classrooms with other parents. Last year was a very
successful year with the Room Parent Program and we wish to
continue that success year after year. We cannot make this
happen without your help. We would love to have parents who are
enthusiastic, flexible, dependable and committed to increasing
parent involvement. If you would be interested in being a Room
Parent please fill out the form that will be sent to you or
