I grew up in Blacksburg and, after graduating from Randolph Macon College in
1981, took a teaching position at BMS. In addition to teaching, my time is
spent golfing with my husband, bowling on 2 leagues, singing and playing
guitar in a band, taking nature photos, writing poetry, and working word
puzzles. I also enjoy summers across the state in Gloucester
County where my parents have a cottage on the water.
My husband,Rickey, and I call Craig County home. We
live "2 mountains over and to the right" if you ever need to find me. We have
3 dogs (a beagle:Daisy ; a tri-colored lab we named 'Diamond-in-the-
Rough':Diamond for short); a two-old hound/lab mix named T-bone ,and a cat
with Cerebellar Hypoplasia. (She's an uncoordinated klutz with limited fine
motor skills). Her name is Hunny and she's given us lots of laughs.
On October 29,2009 Rickey and I became "young" grandparents. My daughter,
Tanya, and her hubby, Tommy, welcomed a little girl, Laurana, into their
lives and, even though they live in Florida, we travel down and she travels
up to allow us grandparent time to see our beautiful granddaughter. Skyping
is a wondeful tool.
Aside from being "Grams", I enjoy working with 7th graders who, just by their
very nature, never let me
get bored with my career choice! This is year number 31 of my career and I am
just as excited to begin teaching this year as I was my first year at the
former old BMS which was built as a high school which became a middle
school...You get the drift. 1981 was a long time ago...
To help students learn how to learn through the basics of reading and
writing. The class focus is literature-based and discussions, projects, and
writings stem from the various reading assignments. Emphasis is placed on
a study of poetry, grammar, short stories, and selected readings from novels
and the literature book as well as writing.
