Jones/Kass Team Newsletter
November 23, 2009
Sorry for not getting our newsletter out on Friday.
Tomorrow (Tuesday) we will be tye-dying our t-shirts. This could get messy, so we encourage you to send your child to school in older “play” clothes. After they finish tye-dying, we will be sending the shirt home with the students to be dried and washed. There will be thorough directions on how to do this, along with a special rinse agent to use in the wash. We are asking students to wear their new shirts to school on the Monday after Thanksgiving break.
Just a reminder that report cards went home Friday. Please make sure to sign it and return the envelope only to your child’s Flex teacher.
In Language Arts this week, we have been learning about plays and script writing as we prepare to take the novel “To Spoil the Sun” and turn it into a play. We’ve had fun reading aloud and acting out a play in class this week, in addition to some journal writing. Next week we will also be working on our novel unit. In Social Studies, we began our Revolutionary War unit with lessons on pre-revolutionary war events. These lessons culminated in a debate on whether the colonies should break away from Great Britain or not. The debate teams were the Loyalists, the Patriots, the King, Parliament and the Indians. In our 1st period class, the Loyalists won and in our 6th period class the Indians won. After the Thanksgiving break, we will be delve into the Revolutionary War by working on stations representing different aspects of the war.
In Math, we have worked very hard in finishing Chapter 3 of our curriculum. We are looking to have a Check-up when we get back from break. For Advanced Math I am thinking this will be Tuesday (Dec. 1) and Thursday for Math 6 classes. The Check-up will cover pages 39 to 54 in the workbook. In science, we have spent time working on pictures showing examples of an Ecosystem and writing a short report of what their picture is showing and the interdependence of living things they used. Have a great break! I am looking forward to my mom’s stuffing and spending time with my familyJ!
Remember, no school on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Have a happy and safe holiday weekend!
