Tuesday 2/3- Due to Math Benchmark testing I saw only 2 classes on these two
days. I saw 1st and 6th on Monday, and 2nd and 7th on Tuesday.
Cumulative Spelling- Take one word from each lesson, for a total of 5 words,
and write one paragraph. The paragraph is due Thursday for all classes.
Study all lessons for a cumulative test on Friday.
Cumulative Vocabulary- Study words and definitions on the study guide for a
cumulative test on Friday.
Complete "Echo and Narcicuss" Mini Test and Check Test (1st and 6th due Wed.
2nd and 7th due Thursday)
Tomorrow we will be going to the library. Please remind your child to bring
their library book to class.
Monday 2/9- The students watched a video on goal setting today in class.
Then, we did an activity and discussed the video. Students were given a goal
setting sheet, that will remain in the class. This sheet has their SOL
scores from last year, and their 2 benchmark scores from this year on them.
The sheet asks the students to set academic goals for themselves and list the
obstacles that can get in the way of their goals. We will be completing this
sheet on Wednesday in class.
Their homework for tonight was to complete pages 336-343 in their text
books. They were to omit the constructed response on pg. 341. This
assignment will be due on Wednesday. They were also given out Spelling
Lesson 20. This assignment will be due on Thursday at the beginning of class.
Tuesday 2/10- We will visit the library on Tuesday, since we missed our
library
day last week, due to the inclement weather. Please remind your child to
bring their book with them to class. The homework from Monday will be due
tomorrow.
Wednesday 2/11- I will collect the homework from Monday. We will fill out
our
Goal Setting Sheets. Then we are going to work on a Summative test. If the
students do not complete the assignment in class, then it will be homework,
and will be due on Thursday. Spelling 20 is due tomorrow.
Thursday 2/12 - I will collect Spelling 20. Then we will take a test
similar to
the SOL test from last year. This will be a paper/pencil test, and will be
taken in the room. There will be no homework tonight.
Friday 2/13- Complete the SOL test from yesterday. When students have
completed
the test, then they may read their library book.

This week I will be introducing point of view to the students. We will be
reading stories and discussing which point of view it is from, for example,
first person, third person or omniscient point of view. Below is the
tentative schedule for this week.

students will not be allowed to change their book. The rubric will be sent
home with the students, and parent signature will be required for 3 points
extra credit.

Quiz Words for Extra Credit-
Complications: Series of events that take place that make it hard for the
character to get what he or she wants.
Basic Situation or Initiating Events: first part of plot- tells who the
characters are and what they want. Usually where you find out the conflict
in the story.
Resolution: Last part of the story- the loose ends of the plot are tied up
and the story is closed. (solution)
Foreshadow: Clues that hint at future events to make us feel suspense.
Internal Conflict: Takes place in a character’s mind.
External Conflict: Struggle between opposing characters or opposing forces.
Point of View-
Point of View- Vantage point from which a story is told.
First Person- One of the characters tells the story. The storyteller uses
the first-person I to tell his or her own experiences, thoughts, feelings,
and actions. (KEY WORDS: I, me, my)
Third Person- (also known as Limited Point of View): The story is usually
told chiefly from the main character’s point of view. Most of the books you
read are probably written in the third person. (KEY WORDS: he, she, it,
her, his, and so on)
Omniscient (also known as All-Knowing Point of View): The storyteller knows
each character’s experiences, thoughts, feelings, and actions. (KEY WORDS:
he, she, it, her, his, and so on)
