You and your classmates will work individually for this project.
You will first review what you have already learned about life in the
Jamestown colony. Use your textbook, notes, and any books from the library
that you may find. Your next step will be to research life in Colonial
Williamsburg. You may use your textbook, the websites provided on the
individual project pages, and the book "If You Lived in Williamsburg" in
Colonial Days by Barbara Brenner. As you are reading, make note of good
reasons to move to Williamsburg, as well as things you don't like about the
new capital city.
Once you have made your decision to stay or go, you can begin the rough
draft of your letter to your father. Be sure to include 3 reasons and 3
example of each reason about why you have made that decision. When you have
finished your letter, you will peer edit with a partner and with your
parents. Once you have finished giving and receiving suggestions, you will
go back and make any changes to your letter that you need to make. You will
type a final copy and then turn it in to your teacher. You will be going to
computer lab each week to work on parts of this web quest.
Your letter should be a minimum of 8 sentences with 5 to 9 words in each
sentence. As a fourth grader, no sentence should have less than 5 words!
While researching for your letter, you will select and complete projects
from the web quest. The more you complete, the higher your grade! For an A
on your overall web quest social studies grade, you need to complete 4. Out
of these 4, you get to pick your best 3 for three grades in Language Arts!
You MUST complete the letter as part of your 4 projects.
Once the rest of the class is finished, projects and items will be displayed
in the hallway for all of Coles to see. So, please take your time and do a
good job. All projects are due Friday, January 11th but may be submitted
early.
