Audition Forms Available for Spring Musical Drowsy Chaperone Info and Auditions Forms in 107 Information and audition forms are now available for the Spring Musical, The Drowsy Chaperone. The forms are on the podium just inside the door. Please keep the information sheet (with full synopsis of the play on the reverse side) as a reminder of audition dates and times. Audition forms should be returned to the red tray in Room 107 no later than Friday, February 3 at 2:45 p.m. Auditions will be Monday, February 6 and Tuesday, February 7 from 3-6 p.m., and callbacks (as needed) will be Wednesday, February 8 and Thursday, February 9 from 3-5 p.m. All other information should be on the forms in Room 107. to arrive by 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium lobby (enter through the
loading dock and come through the stage/auditorium) and you should wear a
white button-down shirt and black pants/skirt, or dress as closely to
that as possible (no t-shirts, sweatshirts, or jeans allowed). If you
usher or help with concessions or box office, you can see the show for
free!
November ITS Meeting Scheduled - Fantasy Flight Signup ITS Will Meet and Discuss Fantasy Flight Nov. 21There will be an ITS meeting on Monday, November 21 from 2:45 to 3:30 in the Addison Lightfoot Auditorium. We will discuss the December 10 Fantasy Flight. Interested participants should plan to sign up for Fantasy Flight at that time. Participation will be limited to 18 students this year and will be determined by the following factors: assistance with Fantasy Flight costume rehabilitation; graduating class. Please plan to attend this important meeting. Various Techniques to be Taught in Sessions with Ms. Ankney Acting Workshops Planned After Thanksgiving
• Starting November 29, Ms. Ankney will be conducting an acting workshop every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Room 107. Participants will practice techniques developed by Constantin Stanislavski, Uta Hagen, Stella Adler, and various other actors. All interested students are invited to participate, but must be available on both Tuesdays and Thursdays. The workshop will be limited to 10 participants. The cost per participant is $10 for 10 sessions. Please sign up in Room 107 by November 22.

ITS members/eligible members/apprentices - your Dining Guide fundraiser
packets are due TOMORROW, Monday, October 17 to Mr. Mettinger in Room
107. Please be sure that your order envelope is filled out completely
and clearly, and that all checks are made payable to 'Fauquier High
School'. You must turn in your fundraiser packet even if you did not
sell any Dining Guides. Anyone who fails to turn in their fundraiser
packet tomorrow must pay $25 for the missing sample book (checks payable
to 'Fauquier High School').• We only have
five (5) people signed up for the New York Spring Break trip so far. We
need 20 sign-ups in order to take the trip. If you are interested in
going on the trip but were unable to attend the meeting last Wednesday,
please see Mr. Mettinger on Monday to let him know of your interest. We
will schedule another meeting this week or next week if there is enough
interest. Otherwise, the trip will be canceled. Spring Break Trip Meeting Reminder Mandatory New York Trip Meeting Today at 7 p.m. There
will be a meeting for all those interested in the ITS Spring Break trip
to New York City on Wednesday, October 12 at 7 p.m. in Room 107. The
trip will be April 2-4, 2012 and will include: round-trip coach
transportation; two nights accommodations in a midtown-Manhattan hotel;
two theatre-related workshops for student actors; a tour of popular New
York attractions; an additional tour (either a backstage theatre tour or
a visit to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island); tickets to the
Tony-winning Broadway revival of Anything Goes; tickets to a
Broadway play; a welcome dinner at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company; and dinner
on the way home at the Deer Park Tavern in Newark, Delaware. The
approximate cost for the trip will be $750. NOTE: This cost does not
include three lunches, one dinner, and an additional discounted
performance through the TKTS half-price theatre booth.
Interested students must attend the meeting with at least one parent/guardian in order to be eligible for the trip. Only students involved in FHS Theatre may participate in the New York trip. Trip information cannot be sent home
but must be discussed in person with a parent or guardian, per Fauquier

ITS Fundraiser Ends Soon Deadline for Selling Guides Extended to Monday Have
you been selling the Attractions Dining Guide?? The original deadline
for sales is this Friday, October 14. However, due to the busy
Homecoming week, the deadline will be extended to Monday, October 17.
All sales packets MUST BE TURNED IN by Monday, October 17. Any student
who fails to turn their fundraiser packet in by Monday will owe ITS

FHS ITS Troupe #4595 has secured space at the First Friday event this

the Attractions Dining Guide, please see Bailey Hutchinson. Shops will
be open late and a variety of local businesses will offer special

to all ITS members, eligible members, and apprentices - the Attractions
Dining Guide fundraiser goes until October 14! You only have two more
weeks to sell Dining Guides to raise money for ITS Troupe #4595!
Remember - you can apply whatever funds you raise to any theatre-related
trips we take (New York!), to charitable organizations to which we
donate (e.g. Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and Relay for Life), or
to the ITS General Fund (to purchase supplies, awards, etc.). [NOTE:
Another local school is selling a similar coupon book. Make sure that
potential purchasers know that the Attractions Dining Guide is less
expensive and includes more coupons for local businesses (especially
restaurants). Plus, if they buy one, they are supporting the arts in
general and FHS Theatre specifically.] So please - SELL, SELL, SELL!
Remember the incentive rewards - a free Dining Guide for every five
books you sell; a $25 gift card to the second highest seller; and four
tickets to any 2011-12 Fauquier Community Theatre performance for the

Performing Arts Renovations Meeting Renovations Info Meeting Planned for October 6 There
will be a brief informational meeting, regarding plans for the
renovation of the FHS performing arts area, for choir, orchestra,
theatre and band parents, hosted by the FHS Falcon Band Organization, on
Thursday, October 6 at 6 p.m. in the FHS Music Wing. This meeting is to
inform parents of the current plans for renovating the performing arts
wing and how parents can become involved in the process. This meeting
precedes an open meeting between the Fauquier County Board of
Supervisors and the Fauquier County School Board Liaison Committee on
Tuesday, October 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Warren Green Building. At the
October 11 meeting, parents and community members will be asked for
input regarding renovations to the performing arts area of FHS.
Please plan to attend both of these meetings and ask your parents to

We will discuss recent events, the fall one-acts, the Homecoming Parade, and Fantasy Flight. Also, we will kick off our fall fundraiser - the Attractions Dining Guide fundraiser. Everyone should attend. See Mr. Mettinger with questions. New School Year Brings New Theatre Season All Theatre Meeting Set For Thursday, August 25
There will be a meeting for all students INTERESTED IN and INVOLVED IN theatre at Fauquier High School on Thursday, August 25 from 3-4 p.m. in the Addison Lightfoot Auditorium. Information about upcoming auditions, productions, and other theatre-related activities will be discussed at this time. Any current Fauquier High School student interested in becoming involved in theatre, as well as those students who have been involved in theatre in the past, should attend this very important meeting. All inducted ITS members should plan to stay an additional 30 minutes (until 4:30). Please see Mr. Mettinger in Room 107 if you will be unable to attend but would like to receive more information about theatre at FHS.

Help Needed Theatre Classroom Setup Assistance Needed
Attention all current and recently graduated theatre students: Mr. Mettinger desperately needs help this week rehabilitating the theatre classroom from a summer of neglect. If you're able to help out, the BIG DAY is Thursday, August 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Contact Mr. Mettinger if you're able to help out, even if just for an hour. There's a lot to be cleaned, recycled, moved, filed, and trashed. NOTE: If you graduated in June, this will be the last message you received from the ITS list-serv, as we will be deleting your name. You will continue to receive notifications from the "Current Season" list-serv so that you'll be aware of casting announcements and dates for future productions, so that you might come back and support our program as alumni! All the best in your future endeavors.
ITS Members-Only Final Meeting ITS Officers Will Be Elected on June 7
There will be an ITS meeting for members only on Tuesday, June 7 at 2:45 p.m. in Room 107. The purpose of the meeting is to elect officers for the 2011-12 school year. All ITS members, including newly inducted members, should attend. Eligible members and apprentices should not attend this meeting. The following members are eligible to serve as ITS officers in the 2011-12 school year: Bethany Burress, Caitlin Duggan, Brooke Hahne, Bailey Hutchinson, Amy Wiedenfeld, and Libby Wilmore. Members should carefully consider who they might want to nominate for the five officer positions, which are: president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and clerk. For more information about the responsibilities of each office, see Mr. Mettinger.
ITS End-of-Year Banquet and Induction Seventeen To Be Inducted at Annual Banquet
The end-of-year banquet and induction for the FHS chapter of the International Thespian Society (Troupe #4595) will be held Tuesday, May 31 at 7 p.m. in the Effie Bell Cafeteria. There will be a potluck supper for all inductees and their parents beginning at 7 p.m., followed by a review and celebration of the FHS Theatre 2010-11 season, and recognition of outstanding actor, actress, supporting actor, and supporting actress. All ITS members are strongly encouraged to attend the presentation portion of this banquet, which should commence at approximately 7:30 p.m., following the potluck supper. Those members who wish to attend the potluck supper along with the inductees and their parents are welcome to do so - please bring an entree or side dish to share if you plan to eat with us. Apprentices may attend as well.

Auditions for Hairpray + Available Form + January ITS "Meeting" Audition Forms for Spring Musical Available Online
• Auditions for the spring musical, Hairspray, will be February 7-10. Audition forms are available in Room 107, or you may download and complete an audition form by clicking on the "Hairspray Forms" link on the home page of this website and then by clicking on "Audition Form". Please download and read the "Audition Information Sheet", also available on the "Hairspray Forms" page. This will reduce unnecessary questions about the audition process and can serve as a reminder of the audition dates and times. Should you have any questions about the auditions which are not answered on the Audition Information Sheet nor the Audition Form itself, please direct your questions to Ava Luley, stage manager. Audition forms are due by Friday, February 4 at 2:45 p.m. in Room 107.
• Remember: In place of our January ITS meeting, you should attend an FHS Theatre production. Thanks to those who attended Red, White and Tuna. Don't Shave December + Holiday Meeting Please Contribute to Benefit The Haven
• Would you like to make a charitable contribution to benefit the local shelter, The Haven? If so, please support Mr. Mettinger, who is participating in Don't Shave December to benefit The Haven, through December 21. Contributions in any amount will be accepted. Checks should be made payable to 'Fauquier High School'. Mr. Mettinger and six other FHS faculty members are refraining from shaving for the month of December in order to raise money for The Haven. The faculty member who receives the highest contribution total will receive a free haircut and shave from a local establishment.

Busy December for FHS Theatre Meetings and Activities Fantasy Flight Mandatory Meeting, RW&T Crew, and ITS Holiday Party Coming Up Before Winter Break
• REMINDER: The second payment ($250) for the Spring Break Trip to New York is due by Monday, December 6.
• There will be a Fantasy Flight mandatory meeting with Sandy Steinmeyer on Tuesday, December 7 at 2:45 in Room 107. Those who have rehearsals at 3 p.m. will be dismissed on time. At this meeting, Sandy will review all procedures for Fantasy Flight, including parking arrangements and directions, and she will fit people for costumes based on height. Those who have participated in Fantasy Flight before have first choice as to which character they would like to play. Based on the number of participants, there may be as many as four actors sharing one costume. Thanks to Sandy's generosity, everyone who signed up, including alternates, are eligible to participate in Fantasy Flight. Those who do not attend this meeting will not be able to participate.
• After some delay, the crew/backstage meeting for Red, White, & Tuna will be Thursday, December 9 at 2:45 p.m. in Room 107. Anyone interested in working behind the scenes on the winter play should attend this important meeting. NOTE: Immediately following the crew meeting, those interested in crew should play to stay to watch the full run-through of the show from 3-6 p.m. This is a change from standard procedure. Crew contracts will be issued no later than Monday, December 13. If you cannot attend the meeting, it is unlikely that you will be able to work on the crew. Second New York Trip Meeting Scheduled NYC Trip Makeup Meeting + District One-Acts
• NYC Trip - There will be a meeting for those who could not attend the initial New York Trip meeting THIS THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 4 at 6 p.m. in Room 107. Please note the earlier time. Interested students should attend with at least one parent. The first deposit for the trip will be due the following day - November 5. Please see below for more details on the trip. You cannot sign up for the trip if you have not attended an informational meeting.
• Evergreen District One-Act Play Festival - Fauquier High School will participate in the Evergreen District One-Act Play Festival this Saturday, November 6 at Kettle Run High School from 3-10 p.m. (the later time is due to SATs on Saturday morning). The one-act The Actor's Nightmare, directed by Thomas Hooker and Sean Trapani, will represent FHS. The cast includes: David Sabre as George Spelvin, Sadie Carr as Meg, Bailey Hutchinson as Sarah Siddons, Brooke Hahne as Ellen Terry, and Kyle Verna as Henry Irving/Executioner. The stage manager is Sage Maxwell. Consider attending the festival to support our students' efforts to advance to the Regional One-Act Play Festival. Congratulations to all one-act directors, actors, and crew for their performances this past weekend.
• November ITS Meeting - For your planning purposes, the November ITS meeting will be Wednesday, November 17 from 3-3:45 in the Addison Lightfoot Auditorium. Please plan to attend.
Major Events This Week! Fundraising + Homecoming + NYC Trip Meeting
• Fundraising Packets Due - All Dining Guide Fundraising Packets must be turned in by Monday, October 18. Those who fail to turn their packets in must pay $25 by 2:45 p.m. on Monday afternoon. DO NOT keep your sample book or give it away for any reason. All sample books must be accounted for before we can distribute books to those who ordered them and to those who sold five or more books and therefore receive a free guide. Thank you.
• Homecoming Parade Float - Preparations for the ITS Homecoming Parade Float will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3-5 p.m. in the loading dock area. All those interested in participating may attend. You will not be allowed to travel with the float if you do not help with the float decorations/preparations. For more information, see a member of the Homecoming Float Committee (Tim Sampson, Libby Wilmore, Maddie Lenhart, or Baylee Alerding). We will be singing along with songs from the Broadway musical "Side Show". Files of those songs are located in the "RW&T Forms" section of this website. Click on the link to download the m4a file. IMPORTANT: We are still in need of a large flatbed trailer for our float. If you know someone who has one, see Mr. Mettinger or a committee member as soon as possible.
• NYC Spring Break Trip Meeting - There will be a mandatory meeting for all those interested in the ITS Spring Break Trip to New York City on Thursday, October 21 at 7 p.m. in Room 107. At least one parent must attend with you in order for you to sign up for this trip. We will spend three days and two nights in New York. The trip includes two Broadway shows (with an add-on option for a third), two theatre-related workshops, two tours of New York landmarks, and a welcome dinner on our first night. The cost will be approximately $750 per person and includes two nights lodging in a Manhattan hotel and transportation by chartered bus to and from New York City. For more information, see Mr. Mettinger in Room 107. NOTE: Please do not "ask for the handout" to take home because you cannot attend the meeting. If at least one of your parents cannot attend the meeting, you cannot go on the trip.
• George Mason University Open House - The theatre department at George Mason University is holding an Open House for prospective students on Friday, October 22 beginning at 3 p.m. (this directly conflicts with the FHS Homecoming). If you are interested in attending, please see Mr. Mettinger for more information.
The sales deadline for the Dining Guides has been extended until Monday, October 18! PLEASE use this extra weekend to sell as many guides as you can. Dining Guides are ABSOLUTELY DUE by Monday. If you fail to turn in your packet, we will expect a $25 check (payable to Fauquier High School) from you immediately! Do NOT keep your sample book!
Attractions Dining Guide Fundraiser Runs 3 Weeks
The FHS Troupe #4595 of the International Thespian Society will be selling the Attractions Dining Guide to raise money for the organization beginning Monday, September 27 and continuing through Friday, October 15. Members, eligible members, and apprentices may sell dining guides, and can choose how the funds they raise are allocated once the fundraiser has concluded. NOTE: If you did not attend the September 27 ITS meeting and wish to pick up a fundraiser packet, please stop by Room 107 and sign one out.
REMINDERS: 1. Your sample Attractions Dining Guide included in your fundraiser packet is worth $25. Please do not lose it, forget it, or give it away to a customer. All purchased Dining Guides will be delivered in the week following October 15.
2. Our group number for online sales is: 32269. Patrons who wish to purchase a Dining Guide online should go to the website (www.attractionsbook.com/pay) and enter our group number (32269) and your name as "Seller Name". They should also indicate "I do not have the book I am paying for" under the "Delivery" section.
3. Checks must be made payable to Fauquier High School. All customers must include the notation "ITS Fundraiser" on the memo line of their check.
4. Make sure you get all contact information (name, phone number, address) for every customer.
5. Read through all the material in your fundraiser packet. Included is a list of Warrenton area businesses and Gainesville/Haymarket area businesses that are included in the guide.

September ITS Meeting This Monday!
This Month's ITS Meeting will be Monday, September 27 from 2:45 to 3:30
The September meeting of the International Thespian Society will be Monday, September 27 from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m. in the Addison Lightfoot Auditorium. All students interested in and involved in theatre should attend! At this meeting, we will discuss the ITS entry in the FHS Homecoming parade and our plans for the New York trip; we will also distribute the Dining Guide fundraising packets. This is an important meeting that you should not miss! NOTE: Due to the meeting, Shakespeare Troupe rehearsal will begin at 3:15 and Red, White & Tuna rehearsal will begin at 3:30 (with a finish time of 6 p.m.).

FHS Theatre Starts Year With Annual All-Department Meeting
FHS Theatre will hold an important all-department meeting this Thursday, August 26 from 3-4 p.m. in the Addison Lightfoot Auditorium. All students interested in and involved in theatre at Fauquier High School should attend. Members of the Class of 2014 and transfer students are especially encouraged to attend. For those who have been involved in the program, please bring a new friend who may be interested in theatre. We will discuss the upcoming FHS Theatre season, auditions, the Spring Break trip to New York, and many other activities we have planned for the year. ITS members should plan to stay until 4:30 for an additional meeting. Please see Mr. Mettinger in Room 107 if you cannot attend.
One-Act Festival Directing Applications Due August 30
Deadline Set for Students Interested in Directing a One-Act
Any student interested in directing a one-act play for the 2010 Fall Festival of One-Acts should pick up an application from Mr. Mettinger in Room 107. You will need to secure a stage manager and a faculty sponsor; and you should determine which play you would like to direct prior to submitting the application. Applicants should have at least two years experience in FHS Theatre and/or should have taken Theatre 2. Plays should be no longer than 35 minutes and should have no more than 6-8 characters. Forms are available on the podium in Room 107.

ITS Final Meeting and Officer Elections
ITS Final Meeting for 2009-2010 School Year is Monday, June 7
The final ITS meeting of the 2009-2010 school year will be Monday, June 7 at 2:45 p.m. in Room 107. This meeting is for members only, including newly-inducted members. We will elect officers for the 2010-2011 school year. Please plan to attend this very important meeting.
ITS Induction and Awards Ceremony
New Members Inducted Tuesday, June 1; Awards Presented
The spring ITS induction will be Tuesday, June 1 at 7 p.m. in the Effie Bell Cafeteria. Eligible members who have submitted their dues will be inducted. Current members and apprentices are encouraged to attend. The evening will include a potluck dinner for inductees, honorary inductees, and parents. Any current members or apprentices who wish to attend the potluck portion of the evening should bring a dish to share. Otherwise, the awards and induction portion of the evening's activities should begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. After reviewing our season with video clips and a photo slide show, awards will be given for outstanding actor/actress and supporting actor/actress. The Outstanding Thespians will also be named, and an ITS scholarship will be presented. Fifteen eligible members will be inducted. All students involved in theatre during the 2009-2010 school year should plan to attend.
ITS October eMeeting Announcements Due to the hectic October schedule (Homecoming, one-acts, exams), the October ITS meeting will be held online. Following are important announcements and information. Please see the responsible person for more information. � OLD BUSINESS: Trips: Not enough people have signed up for the trips to the Kennedy Center to see Young Frankenstein on January 3 and Mary Poppins on August 15. The deadline has been extended to November 2 for Young Frankenstein. You must sign up AND pay ($110) by that date. We need a minimum of 25 students to sign up or the trip will be cancelled. CONTACT: Mr. Mettinger � OLD BUSINESS: Trips: The New York Spring Break Trip is ON. Anyone wishing to add on to the trip must pay the first deposit of $225 (includes a $25 late registration fee) by November 2. There is still plenty of space on the trip for more participants. CONTACT: Mr. Mettinger � OLD BUSINESS: Fundraising: The Dining Guide fundraiser raised $625 for ITS - $260 toward trips, $83.75 towards Broadway Cares: Equity Fights AIDS, and $281.25 toward the ITS General Fund. � OLD BUSINESS: Spending: The Mac laptop has been repaired at no cost to the theatre program. � OLD BUSINESS: District One-Act Festival: There will be a brief meeting for all students who can help with the District One-Act Festival (November 14) on Monday, November 2 at 2:45 in Room 107. Remember that the majority of FHS theatre students are expected to help with this event, so plan to attend this IMPORTANT meeting. � OLD BUSINESS: Homecoming Float: Congratulations and thank you to the Homecoming Wagon Committee for doing such a great job with our wagon - Cassidy Glascock, Madeline Hooker, Lauren Sauerwald, Bailey Withers and Tim Sampson. � OLD BUSINESS: Fantasy Flight: Those students interested in participating in the Fantasy Flight in December should sign up on the podium in Room 107 by November 2. There will be a meeting for interested students sometime in November. Watch for an announcement. � NEW BUSINESS: The FHS Theatre family is saddened to learn of the death of a theatre parent and booster - Michelle Tines-Spencer (mother to Davone Tines '05 and Michael Spencer '11). Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 20 at 11 a.m. at the Providence Baptist Church in Orlean. New York Trip Deposit #1 Due + Other Reminders � The first New York Trip deposit - $200, payable to 'Fauquier High School' - is due Monday, October 5. There are still spaces open on the trip. If you are interested in going to New York but did not attend the initial meeting, see Mr. Mettinger as soon as possible for more information. There are still spaces available on the trip. If you would like to participate, please see Mr. Mettinger for more information as soon as possible. � Thanks to all who turned in their Dining Guide fundraiser packets (especially those who turned them in ON TIME). We raised $625 for ITS trips, scholarships, and charitable causes. If you sold any Dining Guides, be sure to distribute them immediately, and also turn in your fund allocation card by Friday, October 9. � Only three students have signed up and paid for the two Kennedy Center trips (Young Frankenstein on January 3 and Mary Poppins on August 15). We must have at least 25 paid signups for each trip, or they will be cancelled. The deadlines to sign up and pay for the trips are as follows: Young Frankenstein - October 12; Mary Poppins - May 24, 2010. � Stay tuned for information about our October ITS meeting. � The FHS Fall Festival of One-Acts will be October 23, 24, and 25. Announce Spring Musical - Meredith Willson's The Music Man New York Trip Meeting on Monday, September 21 There will be a meeting to discuss the details and cost of the Spring Break three-day ITS trip to New York City on Monday, September 21 from 6-7 p.m. in Room 107. Students and at least one parent must attend this meeting (we cannot "send the info packet home"). If your parents cannot attend, students may attend the meeting on their own, but a parent will need to attend an alternate meeting on another date. The New York trip will be March 29-31, and the cost (approximately $725) will include two nights in a hotel, charter bus transportation, two Broadway shows, two theatre-related workshops, two New York attractions tours, and one welcome dinner. The Attractions Dining Guide fundraiser ends on September 25 - if you have a fundraising packet, please remember to do your best to sell the dining guide to friends and family (teachers are fair game, too!). Remember, if you sell at least 5 books, you receive a free book for yourself. If you sell 10 books, you will also receive a special bonus gift from our ITS chapter! Get out there and sell those books. If you failed to pick up a fundraising packet on September 4, please stop by Room 107 ASAP to get one. All packets are DUE SEPTEMBER 25!
