Comprehension Questions for the Family

1. What part of the story was your favorite? Why?

2. Who is ____________?

3. How are the characters ____________ and ____________ different? How are they

alike?

4. What things do the pictures show us that we didn’t learn in the words of the story?

(Examine the pictures together.)

5. What problem did the character(s) have in the story? How was the problem solved?

6. Can you retell the story in your own words?

8. Who was the main character?

9. Were there a “bad guy” and a “good guy” in the story? Who were they?

10. What was the story mostly about?

11. How would you solve the problem if you were in the story?

Great Language Arts Websites

 

Into the Book-  This is a site that we use regullary in class.  It gives students practice in the reading skills we are using in class (questioning, using prior knowledge, visualization, infering, synthesizing, making connections.)  Each student has their own "key."  If your child has forgotten his/her key, just create a new one! 

 

A Compact for Reading Guide-  This is a great site for parents who want to help their child at home with reading skills.   There are activities and worksheets that you can print out and give your child. 

 

 

Third Grade Skill Builders for Families-  This site has great suggestions for helping your child at home!

 

 

Family Fundamentals for Summer Learning-  This site has great reading activities that you can do at home to help your young reader!

 

 

TumbleBooks-  We have a new trial subscription for this!  This can count as your child's reading each night.  The children read along with the story.  Many of these books are AR books as well!  The username is glenwoodlibrary.  The password is books.
