Finance Policies

Welcome to the Financial Foundations for Teens class! Please review the enclosed class policies to aid in understanding how the class will be run. I look forward to a great year with you!

Class Conduct

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it might impart grace to those who hear. (Eph. 4:29)

Our classroom environment will be one of mutual respect among everyone in the classroom as this verse commands. We will be following the standard HEARTS policies as laid out in the Registration document. A couple of those policies are listed below.

Class Behavior: In the unlikely event that a student is disrespectful or disrupting the learning/teaching environment, he/she will first be asked to change his/her ways. If the behavior continues, the student will be dismissed from class to the HEARTS supervisor. If the behavior persists, the parents will be contacted.  If the issue is not resolved, the student will be removed from the class permanently.

Cell Phones - No cell phones will be used during classes. Students will NOT be dismissed from class to make phone calls. If a parent needs to get in touch with a student during class, they should contact the HEARTS Friday supervisor, Pat Gresham on her cell at 703-999-6649. Cell Phones used during class will be confiscated and kept during class. If there is a second offense, the cell phone will be confiscated during class and the parent will be notified that there is an ongoing issue.  ***Parents, please do not text or call your students during class. Make sure you know what times your students are in class so that you are not texting or calling at that time. Too many students are asking to be excused from class to call their parents or are being texted in class by parents. In the past this has been very disruptive to classes.

Class Seating: Students can sit where they wish during class, however, I may change the seats of students who become disruptive due to sitting next to a friend.

Homework Assignments:

Homework assignments will be given each week either in the form of an activity or a test. Homework is expected to be completed each week before class.

·         A quarterly syllabus will be updated on Mrs. Rumford's teacher website at http://teacherweb.com/VA/HEARTS/KathleenRumford/apt2.aspx

·         I will check or collect homework at the beginning of class. Grace will be given for forgotten homework until 5pm that same day. It may be emailed to me OR dropped by my house by 5pm the same day for no loss of credit. However, if forgetting homework becomes routine (2x in 1 quarter) for any student, they will lose this privilege.  Homework will not be accepted after 5pm however I will accept a test one week late at 10% off.

·         Doing homework during class is unacceptable and will receive a 0 (zero).

Homework Grading:

·         For some of the homework assignments, I will give the students a check, check+ or check-. The assignments need to have met minimum requirements, have substance, and be legible to achieve at least a check. Check+ will be reserved for those that go above expectations and include a graph or something that further qualifies their work. We will go over some of the assignments during class, as a class, to hear about different ideas the students came up with.

·         For many of the assignments, all of the tests, and projects, I will give an actual grade.

Tests

·         There will be 13 take-home chapter tests. All of these will be open book and must be done IN PEN by the student themselves, not as a group. My goal is that the students dig for answers they don’t know and that they become familiar with the concepts.

·         There will be 4 Unit tests. All of these will be take-home, CLOSED Book and done IN PEN.

·         There will be a Final Exam at the end of the year, CLOSED Book and done IN PEN.

·         Anyone caught cheating on a test will receive a zero with no chance to retake the test.

The take-home tests are “on your honor” and do not need to be administered by the parent. This may change as the semester progresses.

BOOK & NOTEBOOK

Students will keep their student workbook and a three-ring notebook in good order and with proper material behind the 4 tabs. This will be counted in your grade.

·   HOMEWORK tab with most recent homework set in front

·   NOTES with most recent notes in front

·   PROJECTS tab with most recent project info in front

·   TESTS tab with most recent test in front

Grades

There are 6 components to the Finance grade:

·   Participation                     5-10% (on-time, respectful, attentive, prepared, participates in class, notebook orderly, homework)

·   Homework                     25-30%

·   Semester Project            10%

·   Chapter Tests                 30%

·   Unit Tests                       30%

Absences

If you know you are going to miss a class, parent or student must notify me that day or earlier via email or written note (not verbally).  I would like to know in advance,i possible.  It is up to the student, to find out from me how they can make up the missed work.  I will accept absent homework the class you return from the excused absence, scheduled or otherwise, for full credit using the same grading scheme as above.  If I don't receive any communication from you, your absence will be considered UNexcused and I will not accept homework late, but I will still accept a test one week late at 10% off.  For extenuating circumstances, please have your parent call or email me.

Let’s work together in the Lord to make it a great year!

- Mrs. Rumford
