Read-Up

Students are encouraged to read 30 minutes each evening. Students should
select books that are included on the AR list so that points can be
generated. Read-Up is 15% of the total Language Arts grade.

The following chart shows read-up points and the corresponding grade:

15 - - - - A
14-11  - - B
10- 6  - - C
5 - 3  - - D
2 - 0  - - F

Read-Up grades will be generated in the following manner:

15=100                      7= 83
14= 93                      6= 81
13= 91                      5= 80
12= 90                      4= 78
11= 88                      3= 75
10= 87                      2= 74
 9= 86                      1= 50
 8= 85                      0=  0

This next chart may help you and your child gain the necessary points to
keep his/her grade average up. This will give students some direction in
accumulating points during the six weeks. Not all students read the more
difficult books with high points values, but this chart shows that everyone
can gain the 15 points required to get the A on read-up.

November 16-20              3 points
November 30-Dec.4           3 points
December 7-11               3 points
December 14-18              3 points
January 4-7                 3 points

Last Day of the third six weeks - - January 7

We encourage 6th grade students to read books that at the 4th grade level or
higher except in special cases. Reading levels of books students select will
be monitored more closely this year.
