Schedule

We spend the first 30 minutes of each class period working individually on the Reading Plus computer program.  The rest of each class period is spent doing various activities to build reading comprehension skills, which includes phonics lessons twice a week.

This computerized program is set up so that students can work at their own pace on lessons that are structured according to their individual reading levels.  The students are tested periodically to determine their reading levels and are then assigned lessons depending on that level.  Reading Plus can be accessed from home as well by clicking on the link below.

Rewards and Incentives

Students are rewarded each time they "level up," or advance to a higher level in the program.  With each level up, each students gets a certificate which is displayed in the hallway.  Additionally, there are ice cream parties at the end of each six weeks for any student who has leveled up during that grading period.  I give a 100 for each level up that is achieved.  I also give a 100 to any student who meets his or her Accelerated Reader points goal each six weeks.
