Dear English 10 Parents,
I am excited to be your child's English
teacher this year. We have a very busy year planned, and I need your help for
your student to be successful. Please read over this letter and keep it for
your future reference. Please also read your student’s copy of the Classroom
Policies, Procedures, and Expectations then sign and have your student return
the signature sheet.
I
would like to briefly introduce myself and outline the English 10 course. I
began teaching English at OceanLakesHigh
School
in 2004. Before becoming a teacher, I worked as a writer and editor in the
public relations fields for OldDominionUniversity,
GeorgeMasonUniversity
and BOAT/U.S. I received my Bachelor’s in English Writing from GeorgeMasonUniversity
and teaching certification from OldDominionUniversity.
It
is my aim to help students improve their reading comprehension, hone their
grammar, build their vocabulary, and develop their writing skills throughout
the year. The English 10 World Literature course begins with ancient
literature and moves to contemporary literature and examines their traditions,
similarities, and differences. I hope that students will come away from the
course with a heightened understanding of cultural identity, global issues,
and universal literary themes while also improving their own written
expression and style.
Communication
between us is essential for your student’s success. To stay in touch:
1) Check the class web site: www.teacherweb.com/VA/OLHS/Nery.
Homework, study guides, helpful links and lots of other information are
posted. To receive text messages or e-mails regarding
upcoming tests, projects, or reading assignments, click on the English 10
Newsflash and Subscribe to this NewsFlash.
2) The best way for you to reach me is
via e-mail. I check e-mail frequently and will respond to your message
promptly. My e-mail address is michelle.nery@vbschools.com.
Homework is usually assigned everyday. Students are responsible for recording
their assignments in their planners, but homework is also posted on the
website daily. Late work will result in students attending “English Overtime”
to complete the assignment for partial credit because Failure is Not an
Option.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Nery
