What are auditions like?

When you arrive you will be asked to fill out an audition sheet
with some basic information about yourself, and it is very
helpful to attach a recent picture if I don't know you. I will
ask you to deliver your monolog. For the musical, I'll ask you
to sing a short song. I may ask you to do one or two other
things, but don't read anything good or bad into that.
A callback list will be posted online that night and on the door
of the auditorium the following day. The final cast list will go
up after the callbacks.
(Callbacks are a second audition. Sometimes I need to see people
again, but not always. Sometimes the eventual leads don't get
called back because I know that I want them and I don't need to
waste everyone's time.)

Do I have to be in a theater class to participate in the plays?

No, auditions are open to any PVI student. Of course it helps
if you have taken a class to get training and experience, but it
is not necessary. The more the merrier!

What should I wear to auditions?

Comfortable clothes are preferable, but the uniform is fine if
you forget.

If I don't make the play are there other ways to participate?

Yes, yes, yes!!!! We need everyone. Talk to me in 113 if you
need some ideas.

Can I get service hours for helping with the play?

Freshmen only. Everyone else gets that wonderful feeling of
satisfaction that you achieve when you go nuts.

In class, what if I forget something in my locker or my computer or printer dies?

If you don't bring needed materials to class you don't have it
that day. If you work on something at home and your printer
isn't working, email it to me immediately and you'll get credit
for having done it. If your computer is completely dead, write
out the assignment longhand, but the dead computer excuse has a
limited life.

Why is it such a big deal if someone needs to go to the bathroom?

If you come to my class and need to leave, you miss instructions
or activities. The class must wait while someone fills you in on
what you missed, or your group sits around until you get back.
DON'T GO TO YOUR LOCKER BETWEEN EVERY CLASS AND YOU'LL HAVE TIME
TO GET TO THE BATHROOM. If you have an emergency, of course I
will let you go, but emergencies are by nature rare.

Why can't I use my drama binder for another class?

The binder will be used for in-class assignments and for journal
entries.
It's important to have it up to date for grading purposes, and I
may want you to leave the whole thing. You would not want your
chemistry homework to sit in my room for two days.
