Kindergarten and first grade come for 30 minutes once a week. Second through fifth grade come for 45 minutes once a week. Middle school students have the ability to check out books from the library during their literature classes, and some take a research elective in the library.
How many books can my child check out?
Kindergarten students may take out one book at a time. First grade and second grade students may take out two books at a time. Students in third through eighth grade are allowed to have a maximum of three books out at a time. Exceptions may be made when materials are needed for special projects.
The student should tell us if he or she cannot find the book. For younger students, a note or email from a parent is helpful. There will be no immediate charge, but the book's status in the catalog will be changed to 'lost', so that users know it isn't available. If the book is found, we will check it back in, and it will pop back into the catalog. If the book is not found by the end of the year, we will send home a bill, reflecting the price that we paid for the book plus the cost of processing.
Please do not purchase a new book to replace the old book. Library books purchased from our vendors have reinforced bindings and arrive processed and cataloged.
What if the book was accidentally returned to a public library?
If you realize the mistake within an hour or two, contact the library where it was returned and ask about the book at the circulation desk. They may still have the book in the work room. Normally, the public library will collect books from school libraries, and then send them to their technical services department. That department then mails the books back to the school. In the meantime, please inform the school so that we can change the status of the book, and your child can continue to check out books.
