About the teacherAs many of you already know, becoming a teacher for me was not what I grew up wanting to be! In 1990 I graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration from Northern Arizona University. I followed my career into the corporate jungle of management working around high-end customer service. After about six years of climbing the ladder and burning out I came to a crossroads. I concluded that in order to be happy in a career I needed to follow my passion of training and motivation. My two considerations were to train managers to be better managers, or to use those skills to "train" children in how to succeed. Since I had become tired of adults and their at times unreasonable demands and expectations of customer service, I decided to take a chance and use my skills with children at a time when I could make a difference not only in their learning, but in their lives as well. I wanted to replace the traditional teacher that needed to retire 10 years earlier and become the one teacher that the children remembered! After 15 months of full time college I had completed my Master's Degree in early childhood at Old Dominion University. Three months later I was hired by the city of Virginia Beach. That was September of 1997, and a lot of gray hair ago! Teaching has turned out to be so much more rewarding than I had ever imagined. My corporate background and skills have been such an asset in helping children succeed and working closely with the parents as a team! The team approach to education has been very powerful as well as extremely rewarding.
