Ollie's Travels
Chicka Chicka Letter Exchange O.R.E.O.
Project
Seasonal Changes
Pumpkin Seed Salute
to Seuss
Our first collaborative project began before we
even started school... Ollie's
Travels. In this project (which our class is
hosting), our buddy Ollie is attempting to travel to a
classroom in each of the 50 states before school lets
out!

We've been having the best time with the Chicka
Chicka Letter Exchange! We have teamed up with 25
other classrooms. Each classroom was responsible for
creating one letter of the alphabet and decorating it
with items that start with the same letter. It's been
so much fun receiving each letter in our mailbox and
wondering which one will arrive next. We have placed
our letters in a special binder... which has quickly
become a favorite book to read!!
Our class made Yy! We used yellow watercolors to
paint the letters and then cut them out. We glued them
onto yellow paper and outlined each letter with yellow
yarn for Yellow Yarn Y's!!

We participated in the O.R.E.O. Project
(Our Really Exciting Online Project)! We attempted to
stack towers of cookies without causing a tumble.
Before starting, we recorded our estimates. Each
student had two opportunities to make a free-standing
tower. It was interesting to compare our estimates
with our actual stacking totals. Then, each students'
highest cookie count was averaged to create our class
average-- an amazing 16 cookies! Our average is posted
on this site (as well as averages from classrooms in
47 states and 3 countries!!).

Through the Seasonal Changes Project, we
adopted a tree and we will make observations during
each season. We are also collecting and comparing our
data with other students throughout the world! For one
week in October, February, and April, we will record
daily temperatures (at 12:00 NOON) and times of the
sunrise and sunset. We will also make observations of
our adopted tree and our outdoor clothing during these
observation times.
Click HERE to see our tree and our observations!
Then click below to see how our data compares with the
other participating classes.

During the last week of October, we participated
in the Pumpkin Seed Counting Project! Our class
weighed and measured a HUGE and small pumpkin. Then we
estimated the number of seeds inside each pumpkin. We
were surprised when we actually counted to find out
that the HUGE 20 lb. pumpkin had 778 seeds and the
small 2 lb. pumpkin had 389 seeds! Visit the project
page to see how our results compared with other
classes around the world!!

One of our upcoming projects is Salute to
Seuss! We will create a project or two based on
stories by the legendary Dr. Seuss... also known as
Theodore Geisel.
