Nightly Reading
Your
child's reading homework EACH night is to read at
least 20 minutes.
Reading for this amount of time is
proven to be beneficial for your beginning reader...
and it fosters a reading habit that
is sure to last a LIFETIME!
** Listen to your child read and
encourage him / her!
** Read with your child and read to
your child!
** Have FUN and talk about the book
(before, during, and afterwards)!
** Please complete the Reading
Clocks in the EAGLE Notebook by having your child
color the number of minutes read.
What stories should we include
on the Reading Clocks?
Any books that you have read
(and re-read) together, including:
** Favorite stories from your
child's Reading Treasure Box
** Library books that you've read
together
** Nightly Reading Books checked out
from the classroom
** Stories from your own collection
at home

Monthly Family Projects
Each
month, a special project is assigned... to be
completed as a family!
The purpose of these projects is
two-fold:
** Students work with their family
to brainstorm ideas and create each project together.
** Students share their completed
projects with the class and develop their oral
language skills at the same time!

In
September, families made Reading Treasure Boxes
and created a Book Nook at home.
In October,
families decorated a pumpkin.
In November, families helped Tom Turkey
hide by creating a disguise for him.
(Slide show coming soon!)
Special
thanks to my friend, Martha
Shehan, for her amazing Monthly Project ideas!
