We enjoyed participating in a few collaborative projects during the 2005-
2006 school year. These allowed us an opportunity to work with classes from
other parts of the country. Through these projects, we practiced our
reading, writing, geography, technology skills, and MORE!!
Our Projects:
Little Cardinal was our class mascot during the 2005-2006 school
year. He participated in our learning during the day and traveled home with
us at night! He even took vacations to other classrooms across the country
so we could learn more about the United States! Little Cardinal, Our Traveling Buddy
We also were part of a 50 state postcard exchange. We researched
Virginia and wrote descriptions of our state for the postcards we mailed
out. Then we kept track of the postcards we received on our hallway map.
It was interesting to learn more about other states! USA Postcard Pals
We teamed up with another class in the Monster Exchange to put our
descriptive writing skills to the test! We started by using our
imaginations to draw monsters. Then each student wrote a detailed
description of his/her monster. (Our work with adjectives certainly
helped!) We traded with a classmate to test out our stories, and headed
back to do more editing. Then we emailed our partner class (Mrs. Godsey's
class at Maize Elementary in Columbus, Ohio) our stories. When we received
their descriptions, we read them carefully, and drew their monsters! Check
out our drawings and descriptions (and our attempts at our partner's)...
