How does a multi-grade classroom work?
In our classroom we have subjects that are taught as separate classes and those that are taught as a whole. Whenever a class is having a specific-grade-level lesson, the other class is busy working on an assignment. Many times, such as in math, all students work on a similar topic, but with grade-level appropriate assignments.Back to Top

Will the multi-grade system take away from my child's learning time?
Not at all. On the contrary, multi-grade systems have many benefits for students. Those in the lower grades are able to hear and take in upper level lessons, even when it is not their grade-specific learning time. Once they reach the higher grade, they have already had this introduction from witnessing the lesson in the prior year. As for the higher grade, they will hear review of material to reinforce what they have learned. Since there are already two designated student levels, as well as the many within-grade levels that are found, students who either excel, or struggle, do not feel out of place, as all levels of learning are accepted. Having these many levels also gives great opportunity for cooperative work amongst students, which helps to create a feeling of community in the classroom.Back to Top
