About The Teacher

Mrs. Johnson was born in Chicago, Illinois. Her educational background
includes sixteen years as a student in Chicago Catholic schools. She has a
bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree plus advanced studies as
a Reading Specialist and Special Education teacher. Currently, she holds a
post graduate professional teaching license from Virginia.
Mrs. Johnson has twenty-eight years teaching experience in Catholic and
public schools. For the past fourteen years, she has worked as a tutor and
student advocate in the DeSales Learning Center. She has served as the
Director of Special Programs at PVI for five years.
Mrs. Johnson lives in Fairfax County with her husband. Her children are
proud PVI alumni. During her free time, Mrs. Johnson can be found reading
the classics, tending her flowering perennials in her garden, or painting her
impression of a landscape with oil paints and canvas. On July 4th, her
award-winning garden is colored with the patriotic colors of red geraniums,
white daisies, and blue hydrangeas. During the winter months, she cultivates
a garden by a sunny window and waits for blooms from her Christmas cactus,
paperwhites, and amaryllis.
Mrs. Johnson loves to travel. This past summer she toured the beaches and
towns along the Georgia and Florida coasts. She especially enjoyed visiting
with family and friends on Amelia Island.

Mission For The PVI Special Programs: Academic Center for Excellence and DeSales Learning Center

Special Programs teachers are dedicated to providing PVI students with the
tools by which they can better accomplish their educational goals. Special
Programs students develop as active and independent learners through lessons
in organization, time management, and study strategies. Special Programs
teachers encourage students to discover their learning strengths, to build
self-confidence, and to become self-advocates. During Special Programs
classes, teachers assist students with essays, projects, homework, and quiz
or test preparations assigned in student mainstream classes. For students
with documented learning disabilities, Special Programs teachers identify
appropriate classroom accommodations. Special Programs teachers work with
parents, counselors, and classroom teachers to help students experience
academic success with a challenging high school curriculum.
