We have started a new, very challenging spelling program named "Cast A Spell." The program has been around for years, but not always appropriate for an entire classroom. This year, I am ready to "Cast a spelling spell:-)" on the first graders and see just how well their spelling will improve. Be looking for very lengthy words to be coming home, and your child will be talking about the "chunks" within a word (not to be confused with syllables...)
Also, just a note: there is a link to Rocket Math sheets on my Links for Parents page--just if your child would like more at-home practice.
This Friday, students will be walking to the Rec Center for part of the morning, weather permitting, and first graders will have team-work activities in the classroom in the afternoon. You may want to send in extra clothing, just in case of wet socks or gloves. Homework packets this week will be focused on handwriting, review skills and fluency poems--I want you to enjoy your vacation, and use homework time as a chance to practice skills--but no stressing!!:-)

POLAR PRESENTATIONS were incredible!! Congratulations to each of their students for such thorough and interesting presentations! They spoke for about 1 hour straight--presented to grade K, 4,5, 6, 7 and 8! They said they felt nervous at first, but "worked through it" and the results were impressive!!! You will see our presentation format at the Family Farm Fair in April-May!!! Can't wait:-)
Thank you for your support, every day.
