This page will answer questions commonly asked by students and parents.

- Tell me more about the Behavior System in the room...?
- What are good ideas for share topics?
- Will I have homework in first grade?
- What will happen if I don't hand in my homework on Friday?
Can I leave extra shoes, socks, etc. at school?
Absolutely yes. If you have extra clothing items that help you
to feel more prepared at school, I have plastic bags that we can use
to store your personal goodies.
Tell me more about the Behavior System in the room...?
1. Warning=still on green
2. Time out= yellow
3. Trip to Mr. Ward's Room= red
(After lunch, yellow cards return to green, but a red stays red...)
This applies with the specials classes also.
What are good ideas for share topics?
Remember to always think about an item that represents something you
or your family did that you are proud of! It could be a goal you have
or an idea you want to share. Often times, students think they need to
bring in the actual item they want to share about, but this is the time
for you to be using strong words, descriptive words. You can always
bring in an illustration, a momento or an actual photo. Have fun with
your share time! If you do not have a share, your classmates will learn
to ask you 3 questions about a topic.
Will I have homework in first grade?
At first you will not have homework except the "Read to Me 5X" sheet.
I will send out packets and spelling words and if you bring the activities
back, that's great, but not required. After Christmas vacation, the
packets will be due back each Friday to earn a "participation" grade
and stars toward our "end of year" treat.
What will happen if I don't hand in my homework on Friday?
I will work with students on Friday recess if they did not hand in
their homework (due to not understanding it)--this is to make sure
your child is ready to move on to our next learning steps. Students
not handing in homework on Friday will not receive a "star" on the
chart until it is handed in. Four "stars" equals a small treat
from me:-)
Of course, the goal of homework is to reinforce skills, practice
independence and responsibility, and is a small form of
home-communication. Homework is not meant to be stressful.
If part of the homework is completed, then have your child bring
in what is completed and unfinished work can come in the following
week:-)
